 Kaua'i

Billed as the Garden Isle Kaua'i is indeed a lush tropical paradise.  However all that lushness comes at a price as Kaua'i also boasts the wettest spot on earth, Mount Wai'ale'ale, so expect to get wet.  No worries though because in Kaua'i, being wet means you are having fun.

For starters the ocean is warm and the island is surrounded by reefs and thus teeming with all manner of fish.  Check out our snorkelling gallary and see for yourself.

When not out snorkling we were busy riding the waves on Boggie Boards.  We liked the big waves at Brennecke Beach (near Poipu above) but we liked Kealia Beach (near Kapa'a) even better as the waves were more consistent and there were far less rocks.

When we finally got out of the water we went straight for our camera as Kaua'i is loaded with spectacular scenery.  Beaches top the list from long & lonesome Polihale (top right)  on the southwest side to snorkler's paradise Tunnels Beach (right) on the northwest shore.

Another staple of Kaua'i are spectacular waterfalls, none more famous than Wailua Falls (left) of Fantasy Island fame.  (don't tell anyone how we took this picture...)

Koke'e State Park is home to a couple of Kaua'i landmarks.  The biggest of which is Waimea Canyon (left) AKA the Grand Canyon of the Pacific

You can't drive to this lookout anymore (Pu'u O Kila) but then you probably won't have to share it with that many people either.  This vista is the only way you can see Kalalau Beach (below) unless you hike 22 miles (round trip) along the Na Pali Coast.

Remote tropical beach anyone?
