Hints to make Ratty life a bit easier

Nailclipping

I avoid doing this by keeping a rock, brick, or stone under the water bottle. Keeps the nails trim. And I don't have to even try and clip those teeny, tiny, nails.

Bathing

I can't find an easy way to do this. The way we do it, Is to have my hubby hold Derby and I carefully wet him down, lather, rinse, and spend a lot of time consoling poor Derby. Many rats enjoy water. Derby is not one of them.

Advice

There are so many great places online to get GOOD advice. If you haven’t done so, Check out the resource page and get to those places. A few of my favorite are Club Rats at yahoo and SparkyRats site. Also call your vet if you have medical questions. That’s why they are there!

Keeping your rats Cool

Ice cube trays under their shelves, or use muffin tins filled with ice or ice shavings. Darwin loves playing in the shaved ice. Derby knows it water...he's not playing. A pie plate or paint roller pan filled with an inch or so of water. Place some frozen peas in the water and let your Rat’s fish them out. If your rats like the water, they can wade and the ones who don’t can wander around it and grab the frozen peas. Another thing Derby WILL NOT do.

A fan directed at the cage can help also.
