Recent Accomplishments:
I'm retired Navy, so I tend more toward military ships (though not exclusively.) My small squadron currently includes:
USS INDIANAPOLIS (CA 35), 1/144th scale WW2 heavy cruiser built on a Swampworks USS HOUSTON hull with a scratchbuilt superstructure. Fitted with working anchor windlass, nav lights, searchlights and a "Kingfisher" floatplane. My model approximates her appearance when she was lost to the Japanese submarine I-58.
USS MELVIN (DD 680) 1/125 scale FLETCHER class destroyer. One of the Lindberg Blue Devil models, I decided to keep the name chosen by Lindberg after looking up MELVIN's war record. One report I read credited her with sinking Battleship IJN FUSO in the Battle of Surigao Strait. This is a relatively unmodified kit except for the 2 channel R/C gear and navigation lights.
USS HAZELWOOD (DD 531), another "Blue Devil" is a "spare parts" ship, built with left over parts and major portions of scratchbuilt superstructure, she is heavily kitbashed into an updated FLETCHER "FRAM-can", circa 1959, including flight deck and "DASH" hanger, ASW torpedo tubes and hedgehog launchers, new mast and antennas. Equipped with 2 channel R/C and nav lights. Single rudder vs the twin set inaccurately included in the kit. All but the last 6 FLETCHERs were single rudder ships.
MV MARTHA A., a freelanced 1/50 scale ocean going tug built up from a LATINA "AMSTERDAM" hull, scratchbuilt superstructure and drive train. Single screw with Kort nozzle/rudder seem to give this one good maneuverability and pulling power. Eventually will have working water monitors and interior/exterior lights.
MV ANN, a freelanced work boat kitbashed from a Lindberg Tuna Clipper. One of our smallest boats at 14" long. A popular boat with the kids. I didn't know it shouldn't be possible to make this one into an R/C craft, so I did.
Boats I'm still trying to add:
