West Nile Virus - Clinical Trial Information -  West Nile Virus - Clinical Trial Information - "We believe a safe and already available blood pressure pill will decrease the chance of dying from West Nile virus encephalitis by making symptoms go away faster. We need your help to prove this, one way or the other. Last September, 2003, we treated 8 patients with West Nile virus encephalitis, of whom 7 responded promptly. The eighth person, who had chronic leukemia, died despite our intervention. This case series will be published in the Pharmacogenomics issue of Current Topics in Medicinal Chemistry, due out in May-June, 2004."

Katrine has recently announced her retirement, after being the manager of the NCEPH group for almost a year, now. Nceph is a discussion group for parents of encephalitis. Robin (Mom to Amber C.) has kindly offered to pick up the reins of that wonderful group. Current members of the group must remember to add the numeral '2' to the EMail address, as shown above. Katrine writes....."This will be the address for the new parent's group that will continue as of 10-16-00. The members will remain the same and any other parents are encouraged and welcome to join in. I am pleased to see that things will continue thanks to Robin's willingness to take this on. Many parents feel misunderstood or left out because they were not the one who had encephalitis and couldn't understand what it is like. This gives parents an additional place to voice their feelings, thoughts and ideas."

Hello all, I'm seeking help to run a sponsored cycle ride across the United States concluded with the New York City Marathon which is solelyfocussed on raising awareness and funding for the Encephalitis Support Group (ESG). As you may not be aware, my mother suffers from encephalitis and has for the past 10 years. Now as my father use to be a keen cyclist, I thought I could honour both my parents by setting myself this challenge. I've made a website and intend to launch it upon the turn of the new year. This is designed to create awareness as well as enable people to sponsor me, the address is http://www.gitface.com. Now the help bit. I'm looking for sponsorship to cover the costs of the event, I would ideally be looking for a corporate sponsor and I'm more than willing to advertise through the website and/or during the cycle ride. The investment is looking to be around £4,000 which includes the hire of an RV across the USA, flights, accommodation, food and general admin. I hope to have secured local and national newspapers along with radio stations such as Capital Radio and Kiss FM, for pushing the campaign and attracting people to the website. If there is anyone out there who can possibly help, whatever country it may be or whatever contacts you may have, please feel free to contact me.
