17th February 2002 | Date | | | Posted By | | | Comments | Question of the week suggested by a member here at Encephalitis Global.... Hi Wendy, I have an idea for a "question of the week": I would like to know if other e. survivors have been left with a heightened sensitivity to medicines, alcohol, caffeine, etc. Speaking for myself: I feel the effects of alcohol sooner than most, I get jittery from even de-caf. coffee, and when I took Prednisone for bronchitis last winter, it kept me awake for a week!

I also have lots of allergic reactions to medicines I had the E. extremely early in life and so Im not sure of a connection I was treated with prednisone for about two-three years with prednisone when I was growing up for something called opsoclonus myoclonus also known as Kinsbourne Syndrome I had a lots of GI while on it and was told the days I took it I was really sweet but the off days I was really irritable I took it every other day growing up Ive noticed every time that I am given prednisone for my asthma the ataxia improves but this doesnt seem to be the case with the medrol and from what Ive read this seems to be true of people with this disorder. | | | | Date | 2/18/2002 | | Posted By | amazingwoman | | Comments | I was given Respirdol which had side effects and I kept saying strange things, cried, and I just did not do well on it. I am now on two kinds of blood pressure medicine, calcium for my osteoporosis, and once a week I take Fosimax. Some months back I was given Aracept which was not at good for me. My doctor has me on Artax in case I need it three times a day for relaxation or sleep. Soon in March i am to have my upper teeth taken out and once in a while I drink sleepy time tea which I like very much. I shall be moving around April 1 to Brockport, NY to an apartment project and I shall be doing work at the Independent Living Center and train to be a peer advocate voluntarily. Around Brockport and Rochester there is more possibily for me to work and I am going to be learning to record and get a microphone so that I can record my violin playing and also record what I am doing on the knitting machine. | | | | Date | 2/18/2002 | | Posted By | -dannon | | Comments | Yes! | | | | Date | 2/18/2002 | | Posted By | littlieladie | | Comments | I also Have add side effects If i drink alot of caffine It seems like I am up all nite long ven with the medication I take to help me sleep. Alchohol really effects more now then it ever has I seem to get realy ditsy when I have one or two. Even though I still sometimes find it difficult to sleep at nights, more so since I came off my medication if I have alcohol,or a few cups of coffee or in particular a drink called redbull and vodka(a caffine based drink) before i go to bed i can gurantee to not sleep for most of the night. | | | | Date | 2/24/2002 | | Posted By | Casale | | Comments | ok, 1st time here so bare with me. Sorry about angry face, don't know how that happened, but actually.....it fits how my meds effected me. | | | | Date | 2/25/2002 | | Posted By | Tess | | Comments | I too had serious side effects from meds. Ask the doct, what about the fact that I could get addicted - said not to worry will handle that when I am addicted. Said No Thank You. I try not to use alchol or to much caffine get very jittery. Suggested a med serotax, doct said Prozac will be better deside not to use it, will stick to "natural meds." |
