Safety Camera Installations For Safer Roads
2007
Throughout the year new safety cameras will be installed throughout Essex.
This is part of the Essex Safety Camera Partnership's ongoing strategy to reduce the number of casualties on the roads in Essex.
All of the new safety cameras are being installed on stretches of road that have a serious accident history and speeding problems. Red-light cameras are installed on traffic lights, where the sites have a history of injury accidents, caused by motorists who failed to comply with the traffic signals.
In all, there will be 101 fixed speed cameras and 26 red-light cameras installed these include relocations to address visibility restrictions or changes to the road layout at previous locations.
The new cameras are yellow and located in areas identified with advisory signing. They are intended to act as a deterrent to speed and to encourage motorists to stay within the speed limit and obey traffic signals.
