| LATEST NEWS ON BUFFY/ANGEL CROSSOVERS After two years of frosty relations between the WB and UPN networks, it appears that a number of crossovers between the two shows are being planned. Alyson Hannigan has confirmed that her character, Willow, will make a guest appearance in Angel. Speaking at the premiere of Darkness Falls, starring Buffy regular Emma Caulfield, a cautious Hannigan said, "I don't think I can actually say, but a little crossover is happening." With Buffy possibly coming to an end this season, Hannigan said she was unsure if she would return after this season's finale. "It completely depends on Joss and his involvement, because if he walks away, then I'm going to beg him to take me with him. I think this is the last year. It feels like the last year." When asked if she would do a spin-off show centred around Willow? The answer we have come to expect from everyone involved in the Buffy franchise - "I don't know," she said. Media sources, including E!Online, are now cautiously optimistic that in addition to Faith, a lead character or two from Angel will cross to Buffy for a guest appearance before the end of Season Seven. A few months ago, the very public falling-out between Joss Whedon and the WB network suggested that the casts of Buffy and Angel might never meet onscreen again. However, the slayer's creator now thinks that crossover episodes may return next season. "It's not something we're pursuing this year," Joss told the New York Daily News, "but it's something we might get into next year if things have cooled down between the two networks," he said. Even with the dispute, Whedon said it was important that each show stand alone anyway. "I don't need to have any more crossovers," he said. "Next year we might look at seeing if we can do one." Joss has also been very pleased with Buffy's new network home. "UPN really came out swinging. They really promised and delivered a great deal of support. They put passion in it. Our fan base is not huge, but it is hugely loyal. I knew they would follow us." CROSSOVER NEWS Buffy and Angel fans have raised enough money to place an ad in the Hollywood Reporter pleading for more crossovers. 'What death cannot part, two networks cannot separate', claims the ad. But the fact that the shows are now on separate networks has been seen as making future crossovers unlikely, while both Joss and network executives have also tried to dampen such aspirations. Those aspirations, however, still seem to be alive and well, and naturally nowhere more so that among those fans known as B/A shippers, who cling to the unlikely hope that Buffy and Angel (the characters) belong together. Will there be any more? There's no unequivocal answer. OTHER NEWS ABOUT CROSSOVERS ‘I’m not entirely sure that either network would want to’ Joss told TV Guide regarding crossovers between Angel on the WB and Buffy on UPN. ‘Not that Angel won’t be dealing with [dramatic events on Buffy], but the fact is, he’s on his own now’. On the subject of relations between the two networks, he told the LA Times ‘There's acrimony here, and I like to kid myself and say it'll fade. A lot of people got bruised. I haven't broached the subject yet [of future crossovers], and now's not the time.’ He reportedly told the Pittsburgh gazette ‘We have a spectacular non-crossover planned, and I will not explain what that means.’ Meanwhile, David Boreanaz while talking to TV Guide, said that crossovers would not be impossible. ‘If the storyline calls for a major crossover, then we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. But I think the distance between the two shows will enhance the storylines. The writers will be more creative.’ Fans have started a petition for more crossovers. The petitioners state ‘We care about the shows and we want to keep the mythology as it is. Crossovers are a big part of what makes the Whedonverse special and a feeling it's real. We don't want the crossovers to be taken away from us. We were promised nothing will change, we want to be sure’.
