Plans for improvements and additions at Lagoon that have been delayed, forgotten or abandoned.

LAGOON LAKE ENHANCEMENTS
It seems there have been several plans for Lagoon Lake which have been abandoned. In a 1989 Deseret News article, it mentions Lagoon's 10-year "Master Plan" which included a large ship in the lake and a boardwalk along part of the shore. Here's an excerpt from that article:

"The tenative plans for the lake in the center of the park include changes in the wild animal compounds, with many of the animals being moved into more natural settings, and construction of a boardwalk along part of the lagoon to make it more pedestrian oriented."
"Other long-range plans include a tall-masted boat anchored toward the west side of the lagoon, where the high-divers and seals featured last season [at Sun & Fun Theater] would perform...Another possible attraction for 1990 would be a water-skiing exhibition on the lagoon."

EXTENDED RAILROAD
In the same 1989 Deseret News story, it mentions Lagoon's plans to connect the existing tracks used for the Wild Kingdom Train with the tracks that were formerly used for the Pioneer Village R.R. It says:

"...instead of one train encircling Pioneer Village and another encircling the lagoon, the two sets of tracks will be joined for one long railroad excursion around both."

The P.V.R.R. had been closed for a few years before 1989 after work had begun on Lagoon-A-Beach. Since 1989, more and more of its tracks have been ripped out and there are now only a few short stretches of track left. Of course it's still possible to connect the tracks, but it would mean more changes around Pioneer Village and the recently added picnic pavilions.

MINE TRAIN & SOCCER FIELDS
In 1991, the Deseret News reported Lagoon's plans for the property they had recently acquired. They convinced the City of Farmington to close Lagoon Lane, a road that ran through two pieces of Lagoon property on the east side of the park. They reasoned that the road was unnecessary and that they could do more with the property if it was connected.

"The park wants to build a mine train and a river-rapid ride on the property and reconfigure its existing log flume ride, using the open ground. In return, park officials have said they will develop a jogging and bicycle trail along Farmington Creek for public use. Picnic pavilions and ball and soccer fields could also be built in the area if the city helps, park officials said."

As we all know, the "river-rapid ride" (Rattlesnake Rapids) and the jogging trail (Lagoon Trail) have become a reality. But it seems the mine train idea has been shelved. A mine train coaster is one of the things I would really like to see. It would be interesting to see what they had planned for the Log Flume, too. As for the soccer fields, I don't think there would be space for that now.

3RD ROCKET TOWER RIDE
There have been some rumors about the 3rd, unused tower on The Rocket. Here is part of a February 1999 Deseret News article, where the park's marketing director, Dick Andrew, states the original intention for the 3rd tower.

"The Rocket will consist of three towers fastened together for stability. The third tower will later be fitted for either "blast off" or "re-entry,' depending on which ride proves most popular..."

The same newspaper reported about a year later in March 2000 that plans for the 3rd tower would be delayed, but gives no definite time frame.

"Lagoon will not be adding a third section to its Rocket Ride this year. It already has both a "Blast Off" and "Re-Entry" variety, but Andrew said the third part of the Rocket will likely be added during some future season."

Nothing else has been publicly reported since then. It's very possible it will never happen.
