SUPPLEMENTS
Its very important that all supplements are taken after discussing this with the childs peditrician/nutritionist.
Always inform the child peditrician about the supplements the child gets, and what doses.

RECIPE OF THE SUPPLEMENT "COCKTAIL"
FFF's suggestion of a supplement "cocktail".
The idea behind this cocktail is that all vitamins/minerals must be administered together to be effective. Bear in mind that all proof of the effect from this cocktail is anecdotal and inferred but supported by animal studies that are at least 50 years old.
RECEPI:
- Vitamin B12. B12 is an extremely important supplement and I suggest that you add it to the cocktail. Buy B12 sublingual. This pill that melts when placed under the tongue. Good absorption. 1000mcg/day (one pill) (see below where you can order)
-
Childlife Essentials (amount is by age and follow instructions on the label). Childlife is a multivitamin and contains selenium and other trace nutrients. It can be purchased from webvitamins. (see below)
-
Coenzyme Q10 (at least 100mg/day) - I suggest Q10 from Tishcon.com and can be purchased from epic4health.com (see below)
-
Vitamin E - use liquid vitamin E since better absorption - should contain alpha and gamma tocopherol. Suggest at least 100IU/day and slowly increase up to 120IU. Can be purchased from webvitamins.com.(remember to take a blood test to measure liver profiles because vitamin E goes to the liver. Do the test before starting and check periodically (about every 6 months) to see that everything is OK.) Also remember to stop within 14 days before any surgery, if you give the child vitamin E. (see below) 1 drop = 12IU
-
L-Arginine. 250mg/kg.
-
L-Carnitine 35mg/kg. Maximum dose not more than 1000mg.
-
These supplements must be given daily with no exceptions.
Important about vitamin E:
Remember doing a blood test to measure liver profiles because vitamin E goes to the liver. Do the test before starting with vitamin E, and check periodically (about every 6 months) to see that everything is OK.
Whats very important to know is that the livertest AST and ALT are high in our children. Its not an indication that something is wrong from the medication/supplements. These tests can not be used as a standard to drug control. Ana Lucia (FFF's pediatrician) say that the most important liver test our children should take to control the changes in the liver, is enzymes gama glutamil transpeptidase e fosfatasis alcaline. (GGT)
If you give your child vitamin E, stop within 14 days before ANY surgery. This is because the blood gets thinner, and bleading can occure after the surgery. Not a problem if you stop within 14 days before the surgery.
