You're thinking of breeding your dog...
Before you do, please consider the following questions:
Is your dog breeding quality?
If the answer to this is yes...
Are you breeding for the right reasons?
Are you breeding for love of the breed, because you have a dog
whose progeny will (one hopes) contribute to the breed?
Have you demonstrated that your dog has something to offer
by showing her or competing with her in performance events?
Does the stud you want to use fit the above criteria
(breeding quality, proven in competition)?
Are you prepared to be a responsible breeder?
Are you prepared for the costs involved in breeding?
(Vet visits, puppy shots; what if the mother needs a C-section?)
Are you prepared to hand-raise the puppies
if the mother doesn't take care of them?
Are you prepared to keep every puppy as long as needed
to find a good home?
Are you prepared to take responsibility for every pup you breed,
not just until it's sold, but for the rest of its life?
Are you prepared to take a puppy back, at any time in its life,
if a home doesn't work out for any reason?
Are you prepared to take responsibility for seeing that none of your puppies
ever winds up in a shelter?
If the answer to any of these questions is "no"...
PLEASE
DO NOT BREED!
