Family:  Cichlidae
 
Sub Family: Neolamprologus
 
Origin: Lake Tanganyika / rift valley Africa
 
Max Size: 10 cm
 
Temperament: Generally peaceful community cichlid.
 
Sociability: Good social cichlid, can be kept in pairs, groups within a community setting of other Tanganyikans.
 
Environment:Rock dwelling cichlid, needs some form of cover such as caves or rockwork to feel secure and breed. PH 7.5 to 9.5 ideally above 7.8. and hardness of 12-16
 
Climate: 23-27 C
 
Diet: Feeds on Zooplankon in wild but will take general aquarium food such as flake, bloodworm, mysis, Daphnia, brineshrimp etc, live food as a treat and for conditioning.
 
Breeding: Cave brooder/substrate spawner, lays up to 100 eggs protected by both parents and juveniles if present.
 
Sexual Characteristics: Males have longer fin extensions and are generally larger.
 
Availability: Common beginner fish.
 
Further Information: These fish breed quite commonly are excellent parents and a joy to keep.
