 Our Group

Click on the diagram to go to Breeding Tropical Fish

The Group was started by Sam who had initially joined some other Groups in order to learn more about breeding tropical fish after her daughters Mollies began to breed. But none of her questions were ever answered, in fact it was Sam that ended up replying to questions posed by others that were very new to the hobby.

After a while Sam decided to form her own group with the main aim to help and learn from others about breeding tropical fish. So Breeding Tropical Fish was born on the 30th of July 2001.

About one month later I joined (Andy) and began writing some articles and emailing them to Sam who would then make them into pages. This went on for a little while and then I was made Asst Manager (so I could add my own pages lol).

It soon bacame apparent that in order to breed fish, there needed to be some information on their care and so we widened the scope of the group to include some general fishkeeping articles. That was fatal lol because once you start doing that it never ends. Once we realised this the decision to become an all encompassing fish group/rescource was made.

Since then the group has grown steadily to the point where more people were needed to run things so now there are 2 managers and 3 asst managers and over 400 members.

The amount of information has become so great that extra groups have been added simply to hold it all. there are now 4 groups all together each dealing with slightly different areas of fishkeeping/breeding.

Breeding Tropical Fish

Join this Group to get the most from being here.

This is the main group where the main message boards are and where the organised chats are held. Along with lots of information about breeding aquarium fish there is also a wealth of information on fish care (almost 300 pages) along with 1000s of photo's. There is a novice section and an help desk where any emergencies can hopefully be quickly resolved. In order to get the most out of the BTF Group you should join this part.

Fish The A to Z* You are here now.

This section comprises of a large selection of commonly kept aquarium fish and information about them. It has been written in a very easy to read and simple format and is still being added to.

This is also the home of Fish School where anyone with no experience of fishkeeping can learn how to set up their first aquarium and sort out any problems before they arise. There is a step by step discusion from selecting the tank right through to adding the fish.

This group is available to all members of Breeding Tropicl Fish without the need to join. If you wish to take part in Fish School however you will have to join.

BTF Tropical Fish

This is the home of Tropical fish. Where we go into more detail about the actual fish, we have such sections as Tank Busters, Odd Ball Fish, Interesting and Unusual fish, Biotope Aquariums, and a guide to public aquariums. Again there is no need to join this group because it is easily available to all members of Breeding Tropical Fish and is very accessable with links to the site.

Fish Health

This section deals with all the various illnesses and things that can affect the well being of your fish. Like the others it is closely linked to Breeding Tropical Fish and it isn't nessecary to join
