FIVE BLACK STRIPES DEDICATED TO AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF "WALES' FASTEST MAN" THOMAS MALDWYN PRYCE 11 JUNE 1949 - 5 MARCH 1977 READ ALL ABOUT THE LATEST TOM PRYCE MEMORIAL TRUST MEETING HELD AT RHUTHUN CASTLE HOTEL ~ 10th JUNE 2008 see "Memorial Trust News" alongside ..... http://car-a-day.blogspot.com/ Tom Pryce wearing his distinctive 'Five Black Stripes' helmet Tom Pryce's helmet design was, in comparison to later drivers', basic. His helmet was white all over until, in 1970, when Pryce was racing at Castle Comb, his father asked Tom to make his helmet stand out more so that he could identify him in a pack of cars. Pryce added five black vertical lines to his helmet, placed just above his visor. From that time the only change to this design was the addition of a Welsh flag to the side of his helmet in 1974. Goodyear was the only sponsor name ever to appear on Pryce's helmet. THE TOM PRYCE MEMORIAL TRUST FUND The Ruthin Town Council have set up a Memorial Trust Fund for Tom Pryce and I am honoured to have been asked to join as a member. Members of this Trust Fund include Cledwyn Ashford, Tom's boyhood friend; Gwyn Jones, an executive member of the Welsh Association of Motor Clubs and member of the Clwyd Vale Motor Club; Emlyn Williams, Tom's cousin and the contact with Tom's parents and Ruthin Councillors Bob Costain and Murray Bragg. David Richards of Prodrive heads up this Trust.
