MEMORIAL TRUST MEETING 1
VENUE: RHUTHUN CASTLE HOTEL
DATE: 23rd JANUARY 2008
TIME: 6.00pm
Prior to the meeting David Richards gave an interview to the Daily Post and also met with the media. Cledwyn Ashford gave a live interview to Wedi Saith, a Welsh language current affairs TV programme. This all sounds promising as all the publicity this fund can get is a big plus. Perhaps, through these interviews, a few more people have had their memories jogged and they remember what a truly remarkable young man Tom Pryce was and how highly his erstwhile supporters and family treasure his memory.
A few pointers that emanated from the meeting:-
* The Anglesey Circuit has a straight on the circuit named "The Tom Pryce Straight"
* The fund stands at £5 000 and a few substantial amounts are about to be realised
* A local artist, Neil Dalrymple, was to be approached to assist with a possible bronze work depicting iconic aspects of Tom's life ........................... this would allow the public to see what donations would be used for - quotes are going to be sourced
* To further promote the fund, Emlyn Williams and Tom's family have some memorabilia that they would like to go on public display - a venue is being sought
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 26th February at Rhuthun Castle at 6:00 pm.
MEMORIAL TRUST MEETING 2
VENUE: RHUTHUN CASTLE HOTEL
DATE: 26th FEBRUARY 2008
TIME: 6.00pm
David Richards welcomed all to the meeting and he was presented witha cheque for £500 from the Rhuthun Rotary Club which was greatly appreciated; a cheque was also submitted for £100 from Cledwyn Ashford making the current total for the fund £7 500. A email from Richard Peacock was read in which he says that he has agreed to run a TV competition with the winner receiving a day at his Performance Driving Centre. It was agreed that the offer from Antenna to run the competition on television must be followed up as this could be a valuable source of income.
Neil Dalrymple presented his first and second impressions for the content of the memorial, showing a car and a helmet with the background of the Vale of Clwyd. Writing detailing Tom's life and achievements could be included on a separate plaque with a short englyn included in it.
The realistic financial target was discussed and it was suggested that a prospectus be produced so that it could be shown to potential funders.
Apparently, Rhodri Glyn Thomas, Minister of Culture in the Welsh Assembly Government was very interested in the project and would involve Ieuan Wyn Jones, the Deputy First Minister.
The Chairman thought that it had been a useful meeting and he summed upwhat needed to be done and by whom; a further meeting would be held in a couple of months when matters had progressed.
MEMORIAL TRUST MEETING 3
VENUE: RHUTHUN CASTLE HOTEL
DATE: 6th JUNE 2008
TIME: 6.00pm
Meeting attended by David Richards, Cledwyn Ashford, Murray Bragg, Gwyn Reynolds and Emlyn Williams Committee Members). Bob Costain and Eddie Knipe sent their apologies. Also present: Huw Thomas (Welsh Motor Writers), Nigel Davies (Eyecatcher Communications), Richard Peacock (Anglesey Circuit), Neil Dalrymple, Huw Howatson, Gordon Roe and Sam Roberts.
DESIGN OF MEMORIAL
The fourth design was agreed upon as the design for the memorial - designer, Neil Dalrymple. Neil is going to be working on the cast for the next three months before it can be sent to the foundry.
ENGLYN AND WORDING
Huw has produced suitable bilingual wording to accompany the memorial but the English would not be a literal translation of the Welsh. The exact wording will still be discussed in committee.
CORPORATE FUNDING
David Richards said that he would contact motor racing teams who may be interested in assisting in any way. Members of the committee would also be approaching various corporate sources.
EYECATCHER FUND RAISING IDEAS
The Wales Tourist Board, the old WDA of the Welsh Assembly Government could provide grants subject to matchfunding. To be able to get such a grant it would be up to the committee to show how this project would be advantageous to Rhuthun and the Vale of Clwyd. The Daily Post is also going to be approached to run a competition (David Richards considering this idea) with a prize of a visit to a Grand Prix. David was also considering asking Bernie Ecclestone if a competition with one of the F1 teams could be arranged for next year. The Racing Drivers' Association was to be approached to hold an evening where drivers' memorabilia could be auctioned.
The committee have set the target to raise all of these funds in time to unveil the memorial on Tom's 60th birthday - 11th JUNE 2009.
Individual members have been tasked with being in charge of governmental body fundraising, local fundraising and raising funds through the motor industry as well as the motor sports function.
ANTENNA - UNED 5 - ANGLESEY CIRCUIT
Sian Jones was again very interested in doing a continuing programme for Uned 5 on the progress towards the completion of the memorial. This would gain valuable publicity. The idea to run a competition with this programme with a prize of a day's racing at the Anglesey Circuit was still going ahead.
RHUTHUN PRODUCE MARKET
28th June - a stall at the Rhuthun Gaol sponsored by DENBIGHSHIRE FREE PRESS. A few items relating to Tom Pryce would be displayed at this Rhuthun Produce Market. Murray has also complied an eight page supplement produced by the Free Press entitled "The Campaign for Tom Pryce".
As you may well deduce, the committee is doing a sound job in getting this memorial 'from a vision to a reality'.
A big thank you to all concerned!!
