Episode 10 (part 1)
Feng pulls Shan Cai to the piano and announces to the guests that the latter will be playing a piece to celebrate Ah Si’s birthday. Lei tells Feng that asking Shan Cai to play a piece without asking her to prepare beforehand may cause much embarrassment to Shan Cai. Thus, he hopes that Feng can change her mind about it. However, Feng replies that the future daughter-in-law of the Dao Ming family will eventually have to attend many such important functions and must therefore have the courage to perform in front of guests whenever required.
A furious Shan Cai settles down at the piano. She wonders how it is ever possible for her to be married to Ah Si and is disgusted at the thought of Feng being her mother-in-law. Shan Cai bangs randomly at the piano as an act of rebellion. The F4 looks on worriedly. Feng glares at Shan Cai. Shan Cai stops banging and returns Feng’s glare boldly. Suddenly, Shan Cai starts playing a melodious piece and recites a piece of writing by a famous philosopher. The writing tells of a woman who, overcame by expensive jewels, becomes materialistic, proud and looks down upon others. This woman, who only seeks power, wealth and status, unwittingly loses her dignity, soul and purity. With the end of the recital, Shan Cai ends the harmonious piano piece.
Shan Cai asks Feng if a person’s worth should really be measured by just whether she could play the piano, or if she is from a wealthy family and wears expensive clothing. She does not think that knowing how to play the piano is a big deal. She proudly tells everyone that the melodious piece is the only piano piece that she knows how to play and she doesn’t care what they think. Shan Cai walks off. On her way out, Xi Men gives her a hi-5. (The F4 are proud of her) She wishes Ah Si happy birthday and turns to leave. Ah Si stops her. Feng reprimands Ah Si for lying to her that Shan Cai is the daughter of a CEO and reminds Ah Si of his own status. However, Ah Si tells his mother that he doesn’t care if Shan Cai is poor or rich. Feng tells him that being the only son of the Dao Ming family, he cannot be obsessed with a girl like Shan Cai. But Ah Si only knows that he is in love with Shan Cai and that is all that mattered. Feng slaps Ah Si. Shocked, Shan Cai tries to speak up for Ah Si but Feng shuts her up and orders her to leave the mansion.
Ah Si grabs Shan Cai and turns to leave. Feng moves to stop them and orders the servants and guards to prevent Ah Si from leaving. However, Lei stands in front of Feng, and does not allow her to go after them. Mei Zuo grabs the servants and Xi Men helps to take Shan Cai’s things out. With their help, Ah Si and Shan Cai manage to escape.
Ah Si drives out to an open space under a bridge. He drapes his jacket over Shan Cai to keep her warm. He praises her for playing the piano well. Shan Cai knows that Feng told her to play the piano hoping to embarrass her, and wonders why Ah Si did not help her. Ah Si tells her that he actually felt happy when he heard Shan Cai banging randomly on the piano. He explains that he knows that Feng was trying to embarrass Shan Cai, but knowing Shan Cai, he is confident that she would have a way to make Feng the embarrassed one. And that is why he is head over heels over her. He really doesn’t care if she could play the piano or if she is the daughter of a CEO, he will like her anyway. Feeling shy, Shan Cai asks him to send her home but Ah Si refuses. He wants to have a good heart-to-heart talk with her.
Meanwhile, the other F3 (Mei Zuo, Lei and Xi Men) are having a good drink at the pub. They wonder what Shan Cai and Ah Si are doing now and have a good laugh over what has happened. Lei decides that, having stopped Feng from leaving just now, he had better not go to Ah Si’s mansion too often. Mei Zuo and Xi Men also think that they should avoid the mansion while Feng is in Taiwan. Mei Zuo recalls going to Ah Si’s mansion for the first time when they were young. She had apparently warned Ah Si not to be too close to the F3. If Feng could insult them, who is among the nation’s top ten most wealthy people, she would definitely look down upon Shan Cai, who is a nobody. Lei expresses his surprise that Ah Si went against Feng because of Shan Cai and is confident that Feng will not make life easy for Ah Si and Shan Cai.

Under the bridge, Ah Si asks Shan Cai if she has heard of Maple Hotel. Shan Cai knows that Maple Hotel has a chain of hotels all over the world. He reveals that Feng owns Maple Hotel. Thus, both his parents are extremely busy people. Although they are one family, they hardly ever stayed under the same roof and Ah Si does not feel close to them at all. He tells Shan Cai not to bother about what Feng has said and intends to decide by him self, his own path in life.
In the meantime, back at the mansion, Feng has ordered her personal assistant to collect all information on Shan Cai. He reports that Shan Cai’s father changes jobs often and her mother is taking on a temporary job. The family lives in a small old flat. He also mentions that despite all these, Ah Si is deeply in love with Shan Cai. Feng is upset when she hears this. Apparently, she already has a plan for Ah Si’s future. She had not intended to start on the plan so early. However, seeing the current situation, she decides that it is crucial to embark on the plan now and get rid of Shan Cai. She orders her assistant to postpone her flight back to New York.

Under the bridge, Shan Cai asks Ah Si why he thinks that she likes him. Ah Si says its based on his intuitive feelings. However, she reveals that she is unsure of how she feels about him. She is curious why, when there are so many beautiful and wealthy girls in school, he had chosen to like her (someone who is poor and has almost nothing). Ah Si replies that he does not know why either.
Ah Si’s stomach growls loudly, and Shan Cai recalls the cookies that she had baked and almost takes it out. Then she remembers that she does not want Ah Si to see her cheap present and wants to hide it again. Ah Si snatches the package from her. She tells him it is actually his birthday present but she had been too embarrassed to give it to him when she saw all the expensive presents (e.g. Cars) he had received. She is sorry that she can only afford to give him cookies. However, Ah Si keeps staring at the cookies and keeps quiet. Thinking that he hates it, Shan Cai wants to take it back but Ah Si stops her. He tells her that he is very happy to receive the cookies from her. He keeps smiling when he looks at the cookies. Shan Cai is surprised to see that he is so happy to see the cookies, which she thought, looked quite horrible. When she tells Ah Si that she is also hungry and reaches over to take a cookie, he stops her. He asks her to bear with her hunger a while longer as he does want the cookies, that she baked, to be eaten up.

The next morning, Ah Si turns up at Lei’s place. Lei is still sleeping but Ah Si attempts to wake him up. He tells Lei that he cannot go home now after that argument with his mother. He can only wait till she has returned New York before going home. Ah Si excitedly shows Lei the cookies that Shan Cai baked. Grinning like a child, he tells Lei that if someone else had baked it, he would have felt that it was a disgusting move. However, it was Shan Cai who baked it so he really loved it. The sleepy Lei grabs a cookie and takes a bite. Shocked, Ah Si tries to make Lei spit it out.
Meanwhile, Feng pays Shan Cai a visit. Shan Cai is stunned to see her. Feng goes straight to the point. She tells Shan Cai to leave Ah Si and shows Shan Cai and her mother a briefcase of cash. Feng is aware that such a large sum of money would definitely be able to give them a better life, considering the small old unit that they are living in. As Ah Si’s mother, she feels that she has a duty to make sure that Ah Si does not sway from the path that he is fated to walk. Thus, she has to get rid of every obstacle in his path. Shan Cai is disgusted by her move. Shan Cai’s mother laughs. She proceeds to get a bottle of flour (or is it sugar?) and pours it over Feng. She tells Feng that they do not want the family and will not let her daughter be insulted in such a way. Feng leaves.
Shan Cai tells her mother that she is proud of the way she (her mother) acted. However, her mother tells her that she will not be satisfied with just that small briefcase of money. She is sure that Feng will die before Ah Si does. Thus, she is only interested in all the property of Dao Ming family. She tells Shan Cai that she must definitely marry into the Dao Ming family. Shan Cai is disgusted.
The F4 are having lunch. Ah Si is still happily showing them the cookies that Shan Cai baked. The F3 can only shake their head in disgust. Xi Men asks about the night Ah Si spent with Shan Cai and is disgusted to find that Ah Si is STILL a virgin. They warn him about Feng and Lei tells him that he must protect Shan Cai.
At the cake shop, Shan Cai tells Xiao You about the money that Feng brought. She told Xiao You that they had rejected the money. Xiao You asks if this mean she and Ah Si will get together. However, Shan Cai does not think so. Feng’s assistant enters the shop and tells Shan Cai that Feng would like to see her.
At the same time, Feng’s bodyguards also force Ah Si to leave with them.
