Episode 13 (part 2)

At that moment, the doorbell rings and a waiter pushes a cart in, with champagne and flowers on the cart. Ah Si rejects it as he did not call for room service. However, Shan Cai accepts it. After the waiter leaves, Shan Cai tells him that the champagne and flowers must have been for Xi Men and Xiao You. Thus, she thinks that by intercepting it, she would be able to protect Xiao You. Ah Si remarks that he has never given Shan Cai flowers before. He gives the flowers to Shan Cai and she is secretly pleased. She wonders what Xi Men would do next. 

The doorbell rings before Ah Si could answer. A man comes in with a violin. Ah Si brings him in. The man plays the violin, creating an extremely romantic atmosphere as Shan Cai and Ah Si have their meal in the room. Subsequently, they also dance as the violinist plays. 

In the meantime, Xiao You and Xi Men have a drink and chat in their hotel room. Xiao You wonders if their plan will work. Xi Men is confident that his romantic measures will put a stop to their arguing. She is impressed that he is such a romantic person. However, she feels guilty for lying to Shan Cai especially since the plan is only working because Shan Cai is worried about her. She is unsure as to how Shan Cai would react if she finds out the truth. However, Xi Men assures her that their intentions are good and Shan Cai would probably thank her instead. Xiao You wonders how Shan Cai and Ah Si are getting along in the next room. 

Ah Si and Shan Cai are having a very awkward time dancing. She accidentally steps on his foot and the two of them start arguing again. In his anger, Ah Si shuts the violinist in the toilet. Shan Cai scolds him for venting his frustrations on another person for no reason. Frustrated, she also comments that it is extremely boring and expensive to date in the hotel and that she would rather go somewhere cheaper and more romantic. Ah Si tells her that the only reason why they are there is because she had insisted on following Xi Men and Xiao You and not because they are having a date there. Reminded of her original task, she rushes to the door and opens it. Xi Men and Xiao You fall to their feet. The two had been listening to Shan Cai and Ah Si at the door.  

Xiao You tries to explain things to Shan Cai. Xi Men knows that Shan Cai and Ah Si will definitely not coming willingly to the hotel to have a romantic date. Thus, they had come up with this plan to lure the couple to the hotel. Shan Cai is upset that they ganged up to trick her and dashes off. 

Shan Cai enters the lift. Just as the lift door is about to close, she sees Dao Ming Feng walking out from the opposite lift and is shocked. 

In the hotel room, Xi Men lets the violinist out of the toilet. He cannot believe that Ah Si and Shan Cai could still quarrel in such a romantic environment. The doorbell rings and Xi Men thinks that it is Xiao You who managed to persuade Shan Cai to come back to the room. However, when he opens the door, he is shocked to see that it is Feng. 

Ah Si asks Feng when she came back to Taiwan. Feng has just touched down in Taiwan and had decided to check on some hotel matters. She asks Ah Si what he is doing in the hotel room. Xi Men tells her that they had some things to discuss and were afraid that they would talk till very late. Thus, they decided to check into a room so that they could sleep if they were very tired. Feng does not really believe the lame excuse. She tells Ah Si not to waste his time on unimportant people and leaves. 

Xi Men is relieved that Shan Cai and Xiao You had left before Feng appeared. However, they suddenly remembered that Shan Cai is staying in the mansion. Ah Si rushes off immediately. 

Back at the mansion, Shan Cai is packing her bags frantically. Feng returns and has a chat with Yu Sao. She asks Yu Sao if Ah Si had been hanging out with loose girls. Yu Sao assures her that Ah Si had been behaving himself. However, when Feng finds out that Yu Sao had made Shan Cai Ah Si’s personal servant, she is furious. She thinks that Yu Sao has lost her mind. However, Yu Sao tells Feng that Shan Cai is a very hardworking girl who wakes up at 5am every morning and returns to the mansion after school to do the housework. Since Ah Si is dating her, it is only right that Shan Cai is willing to serve Ah Si like a servant. Feng is disgusted that Yu Sao is allowing them to date. However, Yu Sao insists that it would not be right to break up the couple. Feng declares that the Dao Ming family’s children are different from other family’s children. Ah Si is a person with a bright future ahead of him and thus must not allow Shan Cai, a poor and worthless girl, to destroy his life. Feng storms up to the guest room to confront Shan Cai. 

Shan Cai is all packed and about to leave. When she opens the door, she comes face to face with Feng. Feng chides Yu Sao for allowing such a dirty person to enter the mansion. Shan Cai tells Feng not to scold Yu Sao and conveys her intention to leave at once. Feng stops her and demands that Shan Cai quotes her a price. She is willing to pay Shan Cai any amount of money as long as she stops pestering Ah Si. Shan Cai is disgusted and at a loss for words. Yu Sao speaks up for her and insists that she will not allow Feng to throw Shan Cai out of the house. She threatens to kill herself if Shan Cai were to leave the house. Knowing that she has to show Yu Sao respect no matter what, Feng allows Shan Cai to stay for the night on account of Yu Sao. She walks off angrily. 

Yu Sao relates to Shan Cai her history in the Dao Ming family… Yu Sao’s husband was a soldier who died in the World War 2 when she was only 19. Ah Si’s grandfather had taken Yu Sao in and since then, she swore to work hard for the Dao Ming family for the rest of her life. After Ah Si’s grandfather died, Ah Si’s father married Feng and gave birth to Dao Ming Zhuang and Ah Si. For a while, they were a happy family. However, the Dao Ming family business begin to expand and the house became less and less like a home. The person most affected by this change is Ah Si. He often came home covered with blood because he fought with the other children in school. All this time, his parents would only cover up every incident with money. As a result, Ah Si grew up with the idea that violence and money would solve all problems.  

However, when Yu Sao came back to the Dao Ming family this time, she feels that Ah Si has changed a lot. She thinks that this is due to Shan Cai’s presence. Shan Cai tells her that she could not stand Ah Si’s antics right from the beginning and had punched Ah Si in the face. Yu Sao is happy to hear that. She knows that no one had dared to go against Ah Si, thus that is the only way to control him. After Zhuang left, nobody else had been able to control Ah Si. Therefore, Yu Sao is all the more positive that Shan Cai must stay around to control and take care of Ah Si. She also tells Shan Cai that she has an idea as to how Shan Cai could stay in the Dao Ming household. Seeing her cheeky statement, Shan Cai knows that Yu Sao is up to no good and wants to leave. However, Yu Sao threatens to kill herself if Shan Cai were to step out of the house. She tells Shan Cai to sleep with Ah Si and to have a baby with Ah Si so that nothing else can be done to separate them. Shan Cai thinks that it is a ridiculous idea and tries to leave. However, Yu Sao keeps threatening to kill herself and stops Shan Cai from leaving. 

Ah Si returns home finally. Feng reprimands him for bringing Shan Cai back to the mansion to stay. She chides him for not caring about his father’s and her reputation. He does not see how it will affect their reputation in any way. Seeing that Shan Cai does not have a place to stay, he feels that its only right that he brought her home to stay with him. Feng rebukes him for treating the mansion like a hotel and bringing “dirty things” into the house. Disgusted at her words, he asks her to be more direct with her words. Feng declares that a decent girl will not just cohabitate with any guy. Ah Si tells her that she is the one who makes it seem indecent, when in fact there is nothing going on. He shrugs her off and intends to go look for Shan Cai. Feng stops him and hints that Shan Cai is a loose person who will leave her door open just for any guy to walk in and out of. She does not think that Shan Cai has any right to stay in the mansion because of that. Ah Si thinks that his mother has driven Shan Cai out of the house. Feng does not answer him but declares, once again, that a “dirty” girl like Shan Cai is not worthy of staying in the mansion. She warns him not to waste any more time on Shan Cai. Ah Si rushes off to the guest room. 

He knocks on the door frantically and Yu Sao opens the door. She stops him from going into the room and told him that she had used her life to protect Shan Cai. Ah Si is relieved and hugs Yu Sao happily. He insists on going to talk to Shan Cai. Yu Sao rebukes him and warns him that if he does not want Feng to think that Shan Cai is a loose person, he should not go to her room at such a late hour. She assures Ah Si that she will stay with Shan Cai throughout the night to see that she is all right. Ah Si understands and does not persist. Xi Men calls him and Ah Si tells him that everything is all right for the moment. He leaves to meet the rest of the F4 at the pub. 

At the pub, Mei Zuo declares that he will not be going to the mansion so often now that Feng is back. Lei makes them recall the things that Shan Cai had said to Feng previously (Episode 12). They are sure that Feng will be infuriated when she realizes that Ah Si and Shan Cai are still together. Ah Si appears. They are worried that Feng will do something drastic this time and wonders what Ah Si is going to do. He is at a loss but swears that he will protect Shan Cai no matter what. The F3 warns him not to be so naïve as Feng is capable of doing anything to stop the couple. Lei suggests that they move out of the mansion. It is not so much to hide from Feng, as she will definitely be able to find them quickly. It is more because now that Shan Cai is staying under the same roof, the 3 of them (Shan Cai, Ah Si and Feng) are bound to have many arguments. If the couple were to move out, they could at least cut down on the friction and not get Yu Sao involved. Ah Si still cannot decide his next course of action. However, he tells the F3 that no matter what his mother does, he will definitely not leave Shan Cai.

The next morning at the mansion, Feng’s assistant is analyzing the situation with Feng. He feels that it will be difficult to make Shan Cai leave now that Yu Sao is on her side. But if Shan Cai doesn’t leave, Ah Si will stick to her more. Furthermore, if Xiao Zi were to know that Shan Cai is staying in the mansion, it will be more difficult for them to make Xiao Zi change her mind about the wedding. Feng’s assistant thinks that the reason why Shan Cai rejected the money offer the last time round was because she wants to eventually replace Feng’s position and be in charge of everything. Believing the assistant, Feng tells him that she will not allow Shan Cai to succeed. She decides to attack using Xiao You and Qing He.

Ah Si asks Shan Cai out on a date at a cute restaurant where the customers can sit inside a car and have a meal. Ah Si is embarrassed about being seen in such a cute restaurant. However, he is willing to go there for Shan Cai’s sake. Ah Si asks her what exactly happened the night before. She only mentions that Yu Sao had a chat with her, but did not say that Feng had stormed into the room. He reveals that he wants to move out of the mansion. Shan Cai tells him that living alone means having to pay for his own rent, phone bills, electricity, etc. and feels that he cannot do it. She asks him why he wants to move out. He replies that he needs to move out so that he could protect her. Shan Cai tells him that there is no need to do so as she does not need protection. She takes her bag and leaves the restaurant.

Xiao You returns home after an urgent call from her mother. Her father had been retrenched for no reason.  

Meanwhile, Ah Si chases after Shan Cai and asks her why she didn’t tell him about the confrontation with Feng the night before. He knows that Feng must have said many insulting things and is hurt that Shan Cai did not confide in him. She feels that it is none of his business, and rather just a matter of her own dignity. He thinks that she does not feel secure with him. However, she just does not want him to move out of the house and does not want him to protect her. She wants to maintain the sense of equality with him. Hence, if he were to protect her, they would lose that sort of equality. She knows that by feeling that way, she is not adorable at all (as most girls like to be protected) but she does not want their relationship to fall to that level. Ah Si admits that she is not adorable at all and always makes him feel at a loss as to what to do. Yet, that is exactly what he loves about her. Shan Cai is aware of his feelings and concern for her and is very happy that he is willing to do so much for her. She kisses him and runs away. Ah Si is happy. 

At the same time, Qing He receives a call from his father, telling him that their family business has gone bankrupt. Qing He is devastated. 

Shan Cai mutters to herself and is overheard by Lei. He asks if she and Ah Si had kissed. She is embarrassed and tries to hide the fact.
