 Be Gentle With Yourself

For You Are Loved

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.

And

Whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all it's slow drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be careful Strive to be happy.

~Desiderata~

And you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of woman, not the grief of a child.

And you learn
to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow's ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way of falling down
in mid-flight.

After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.

And you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth.

And you learn
and you learn
with every goodbye, you learn...

Mirrors and Other Insults ~ Poetry by Veronica A. Shoffstall

Love is the cornerstone of Biblical ethics.

Jesus said all the law and the prophets can be summarized in this one word:  LOVE (Matthew ).

The Apostle Paul said there are only three things that last:
faith, hope, and love; and the greatest of these is LOVE (1 Corinthians
John defined love this way:  IT IS NOT THAT WE LOVE GOD, BUT THAT GOD FIRST LOVED US (1 John ).  John also said that GOD IS LOVE.

It is clear that at the very center of God's nature is love, but what is not so clear is that love is also at the center of our nature as well.  God is love, and we are created in the image of God.  We have been created to love and be loved, but our thought that we are not loving, indeed are unlovable because of what we have done, leads to  guilt and this thought and consequential feeling separates us from God, from others, from our best self, and distorts who we essentially are (Romans ).
