WHAT YOU MAY HAVE MISSED - 2003

Saturday 13 December 2003

The Bon Accord, 153 North Street (next to motorway, near Mitchell Library), Glasgow

I had the stage space looking like a nativity scene, bedecked with Christmas lights and the trusty oil wheel projector - Roy was Joseph, I was Mary and Helen was the wee baby Jesus. Many enquiries about my colour changing star! Played just about every song I know. Great fun!

Tuesday 7 October 2003

Madness, Bothwell Street, Glasgow

Podboy 3 band night - Fran Schoppler & Band, Mreil and Eve

Started off doing 20 minutes by myself and then the band joined in for the rest of the set (45 mins).

Thursday 18 September 2003

Gram Parsons Tribute Night

The Edge, Cochrane Street (off George Square near the City Chambers), Glasgow

A whole host of artists played at this very enjoyable fund raising night. it was sold out.

Roy, Helen and I performed "Juanita". Deliciously maudlin with harmonies to die for. It is a very short song and it was all over too soon (though I think I heard a shout of "encore" but we hadn't rehearsed any more than that).

Sunday 14 September 2003

The Riverside Club, Fox Street, Glasgow - Townes Van Zandt Tribute Night

Lots of acts played at this tribute night. It was a fantastic evening and people were really there to listen.

It felt great to have a full band backing behind me when I was singing "To Live Is To Fly". They really kicked in halfway through the song and then we just soared. Thank you Home Wreckers/Sunshine Delay! (have band members in common).

There was a guest set at the end of the night from TVZ's son, J T Van Zandt. He really felt at home in Scotland and was given a warm welcome and had a very appreciative audience. He will be back soon if you missed him this time.

You can check out the full line up at the website www.81x.com/townes/backup or www.twangtown.co.uk.

Saturday 13 September 2003

The Bon Accord, 153 North Street (next to motorway, near Mitchell Library), Glasgow

We did two long sets - me, Roy and Helen. It wasn't packed but there were some new faces and it all seemed to go very well. The management at least said they'd be happy to have us back.

I told you we'd have lighting effects - 1) the staff turned down the really bright lights in the back and 2) I brought my hippy Mathmos oil wheel projector.

Thursday, 31 July 2003

The Leather Jacket Folk Club, The Halt Bar, Woodlands Road, GlasgowA welcome return to the home of Jimmy Riff's folk club at the Halt Bar. Roy and I played a 1/2 hour set. I had to bring my own atmosphere - a bag of my glass recycling (ok, lots of wine bottles) and some candles. Made a huge difference. Lively crowd, whistling bar man. Some people listened! It's a hard gig.

Tuesday 22 July 2003

"Madness" Bar, Bothwell Street, Glasgow

Acoustic evening. Line up - me, Roy, Mick and Helen. What was supposed to be 4 bands turned out to be 7 acts! Very strange to play above the entrance on the mezzanine level but once you are up there it's fine. We played really well. Our mugs were plastered over every screen in the bar as they show you playing live on the many screens hung around the room. Sometimes I would take a peek to see what we looked like "on the telly". Easy to forget where the hell you are and what you are doing if you do that!

Wednesday 9 July 2003 - Jaspers, 14 Midland Street, Glasgow

My first gig in quite a while with Roy, Mick and Helen. 5 bands playing - phew! Expensive bar, horrible venue. Thanks to everyone who turned up and endured the damp and foot rot. Remarkably, it was actually nice, warm and dry when you were on the stage. But off the stage....uuurgh! Oh, and by the way, we ROCKED!
