FRAN SCHOPPLER NEWS… FRAN SCHOPPLER NEWS

UPDATE…….UPDATE…….UPDATE……..UPDATE

UPDATE:

Monday 15 November 2004

Hi there, folks - please look at the GIGS section for news about gigs comng up.  I don't know where this year has gone........

Wednesday 1 October 2003

Other things have been happening of late, like moving flat. But once that is done, I'll be able to concentrate more on my music.

I have gigs coming up.  Please check the gig listings page (click the link on the left hand side).

The franschoppler.com website had lapsed for a while but I now have it again and will be working on a real website (I know, I've been saying that for AGES!!).  Watch this space!

Recent News Updates.....

STUDIO STILL IS HAPPENING & GIGS

Taking my time over the studio recording. Took a complete break in June and thought about other things, went on holiday, that kind of thing.  Hopefully I will be able to take "fresh ears" to it.

Please refer to the gigs page for more info about gigs in July 2003. Thanks!

STUDIO HAS HAPPENED

It is true!  I am finally in the studio and have been since February 2003...not every day, like... not made of money!  Have got rough mixes of the basics for 11 tracks and am musing over them.  Due back in mid-May to do more vocals and keyboards.

Please note that www.franschoppler.com is not working at the moment.

Tuesday 28 January 2003

Hi there and Happy New Year!

What does this year have in store? Well, some good things have happened so far.  Firstly, and not strictly this year, the documentary "Unlikely Murals, Mostly" (directed by Kevin Cameron) about Alasdair Gray's murals was nominated for a BAFTA Scotland in the documentary category.  As you may know from my band biography, I composed the musical score.  However, we did not win the category but heck it feels good to be able to say BAFTA Award nominated!  I guess I should ditch the speech...  The film was shown at the CCA in Glasgow on 19 and 21 January 2003.

Secondly, I had the pleasure of helping out HELEN REEVES with backing vocals at her gig at the Fruitmarket (surely the finest venue in Glasgow) on Saturday 25 January 2003 when she supported James Grant during Celtic Connections.  It was a great success and it was nice to be able to return the favour and in front of a large audience too!  Good luck Helen at your gig on Wednesday 29 January 2003 supporting Stacey Earle and Laura Cantrell.  Check out www.helenreeves.com for more info on Helen and the trio.

Thirdly, I am really THAT CLOSE to going into the studio and have done some pre-production and I am working on a fuller sound.  February is looming and I really need to do this!

August 2002

Just updated my links as MSN have decided to change the addresses of the community websites so that you can't find them anymore and your links don't work - most people have been finding it because www.franschoppler.com is pointed to this site at the moment.

Radio Session - Tuesday 2 July 2002 from 5.30 to 7.30pm

Fran, Roy & Mick played live on Radio Scotland 92 - 95 FM, 810 MW on Tuesday 2 July 2002 on the Brian Morton Show from 5.30pm to 7.00pm

3 songs and a small interview.  You can either listen on your radio, on your cable TV (click down from 101 BBC1 and you will find loads of radio stations on your TV, one of which is Radio Scotland) or log on to the BBC website and follow the links for Radio Scotland and select the Brian Morton Show where it gives you the option of listening to the show live. The link is: www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/radioscotland/ and click on Brian Morton on the left hand side of the page.

New gigs alert:

Please check GIG NEWS page - click on the left hand side.  Thanks!

TV Soundtrack:

Finally, due to an oversight on my part, I failed to inform you that I had some soundtrack music played on TV. I was asked to compose a soundtrack for an Artery programme for STV called ‘Unlikely Murals, Mostly’. The programme is about the Scottish writer and artist, Alasdair Gray, who has been going back to re-paint these fantastic murals he originally painted in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.  It was directed by Kevin Cameron and produced by Cordelia Stephens for GMAC. It was shown on STV on Sunday 29 July 2001 at 10.30pm. If you missed it, that’s a shame, but if you saw it….GREAT!

NEW SECTION TO WEBSITE - CD Reviews submitted by YOU

If you have heard the album and like it, please send me your review and I can post it on the website.

Anyway, any feedback from people would be appreciated..it can get lonely in cyberspace....hey, I'm talking to YOU!!!

Word of mouth is going to be important for me to get people to gigs and to buy the CD, so if you like it, flaunt me!!

CD Available To Buy

My CD, ‘1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 songs’ is available from the Glasgow Avalanche Records store  (see 'Where To Buy The CD' page on left hand side).

That’s all for now.

Thanks for reading. Hope to see you there at the gigs.

Keep checking out www.franschoppler.com . It’s in its infancy but hopefully, we’ll get it ship-shape soon!

CREDITS:

Thanks to Roy and Mick for being Roy and Mick. (shucks..).  Always a pleasure to play with you guys.

Thanks to Helen Reeves for all her help at recent live gigs - for backing vocals, guitar and being enthusiastic as well as being a wiz with the P.A.

All photos by Marcelo Dominguez, who risked life, limb and camera on Irvine beach on a cold, Scottish late summer day. Some have been organically altered by Fran Schoppler

Thanks to Martin Gray for initially setting up www.franschoppler.com and getting the site up there in the search engines.
