IN THE DOWN OF GDANSK/GDANSK POMERANIA HISTORY 1. The remains of settler's life go back to the Later Stone Age (2500-1700) B.C. 2. In the Bronze Age (1700 - 650 B.C.) people from the circle of Lusatian culture lived here. 3.The culture created in the Iron Age (650 - 500 B.C.) was named by the scientific investigators the Early Proto-slavic culture of Eastern Pomerania . The discovered box graves took pattern by Etruscan ones. 4. In the Roman Period Oksywie culture was formed on the  territory. Gdansk Bay was known in that time as Venedian Bay and the merchants from the South of Europe were coming to the Baltic coast in search for amber. Their way was called "The Amber Route". Arab coins were found in Swiety Wojciech, Orunia and Przymorze. The cementaries from the Roman period and even earlier was discovered in Oksywie and Oliva. 5. The art of writing in that time was known to few people only therefore it's not so easy to find written records concerning the history of the beginning of the first and last Millenium. In 966 Ibrahim ibn Jakub, Jew from Tortoza, travelled to the Middle Europe and described the Slavonic countries in Dagome Iudex. The original document got lost but his relation was quoted in 1066 by Arab geographer al - Bekri. 6. The first written reference to the city of Gdansk named urb-Gyddanyzc (what means the city situated on the bank of Gdania river) was found in Jan Kanapariusz chronicle "Vita sancti Adalberti" ("The life of Saint Wojciech") published in Rome. 7. Until XIII century West and East Pomerania were the separate Duchies bordered with the Polish State under Piasts, but the part of Eastern/Gdansk Pomerania belonged to Bishopric of Kuyavia (in the Piast Kingdom). 8. After the death of the last Duke of Pomerania -   Msciwoj II, according to the Agreement concluded in 1282  as well as his last will, Gdansk Pomerania became the part of Poland under the reign of Przemysl II who used a title "rex Poloniae et dux Pomeranorum". Przemysl II was the nephew of the Great Duke of Pomerania - Swietopelk who reigned 1217 - 1266. The daughter of Przemysl II married the Czech King Waclaw II and thus the Czech influnce enriched the Pomerian culture.

W czasach napoleonskich i po I wojnie swiatowej Miasto bylo atakowane przez plemiona poganskich Prusów, Krzyzaków, Brandenburczyków, Rosjan, Szwedów, Niemców. Atakiem na Westerplatte i Poczte Polska w Gdansku oraz na Oksywie rozpoczely sie dzialania, które zapoczatkowaly II wojne swiatowa. W Gdansku narodzil sie ruch "Solidarnosci". W Gdansku wyznawali swoja wiare katolicy, luteranie, kalwini, ewangelicy, anglikanie, mennonici, Zydzi, prawoslawni. Kontakty handlowe Gdanszczan z poludniowa Europa i dalsze ("bursztynowy szlak"), wielu miastami Polski, miastami zwiazkowymi Hanzy, Królewcem, Niderlandami, Anglia, Wenecja znalazly odbicie w architekturze, sztuce, nauce. W Gdansku urodzili sie i pracowali wielki astronom Jan Heweliusz, fizyk Gabriel Fahrenheit, filozof Artur Schopenhauer, laureaci nagrody Nobla Lech Walesa i Gunter Grass, skrzypek Konstanty Andrzej Kulka. Gdansk z perla uzdrowisk Sopotem oraz nowoczesna Gdynia tworza jednolity organizm miejski zwany Trójmiastem. Polozone od zachodu na krawedzi Wysoczyzny Gdanskiej, otoczone pokrytymi lasami, wzgórzami morenowymi Trójmiasto, jest miejscem, w którym oprócz zwiedzania mozna pospacerowac po prawdziwym lesie, pojezdzic na rowerze a w zimie pobiegac na nartach.
