TMR Museum welcomes GNYC TLC, YLT and NYLT Items for its new exhibit.
The Greater New York Councils 2009 National Youth Leadership Training Conference at Ten Mile River Scout Camps - Camp Keowa, will be a six day training experience for Boy Scout youth leaders who are at least age 13 and have earned the rank of First Class or higher by the first day of the course.
Give me an overview of the course? The course models a month in the life of a troop – three meetings (one each day for the first three days) all leading up to a big outdoor experience (a hike and overnight outpost camp). The course uses the patrol method and presents model Patrol Leader Council meetings. Patrols are challenged early in the week to present to the training troop at the end of the week their “Quest for the Meaning of Leadership.” While the challenge is designed to have them go through the four stages of team development, it will help patrols and individual Scouts internalize the leadership skills and concepts being presented to them along the way. Throughout the week, the staff will be modeling the concepts and skills that are the core content of the course. The focus of each session is not only knowledge but giving the youth a “Toolbox of Skills’ that equips them with the “how.” |

The 2009 GNYC NYLT staff promises to deliver to you an ever better Youth Leader training conference.
The 2004-2008 Conferences at Ten Mile River Scout Camps have provided an opportunity for 200+ Youth Leaders to develop their Leadership Skills and Scoutcraft Skills in a friendly, fun setting of a historic and famous Scout Camp. Past participants have come to our NYLT conference from many Councils and Troops from States including NY, NJ, MA, Michigan, Maryland, Nevada, and even Canada.
The Conference will motivate and help potential Boy Scout Youth Leaders to succeed and become successful leaders in their home troop, school, and any organization. Feed back from youth participants and parents confirms that the GNYC knows how to run a "mountain top" leadership training experience for young men.
Scouts who complete NYLT are encouraged to attend the new National Advanced Youth Leadership Seminar at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Several exceptional participants are invited to join the Greater New York Councils NYL training team as new Staff members each year. Our adult and youth staff will travel to Philmont again in 2009 to continue to develop our own leadership and teamwork skills.
