Gay Christian Outreach was founded on October 11, 2001 out of the shared vision of the Co-founders, Tony and Brandon. Tony and Brandon began their friendship on the message boards of another gay Christian ministry that, sadly, no longer exists. It was the void that the other site left that created the burden and vision within both Tony and Brandon to create a new site. After several casual conversations over a couple of months on the topic, the night of October 10th changed everything. Chatting into the early hours of October 11th, Tony's passion and excitement over creating a new site finally sparked Brandon to take action. By daybreak of October 11th, Gay Christian Outreach was born on MSN Communities (now known as MSN Groups). The mission of Gay Christian Outreach was simple - Offer support, resources, fellowship and encouragement to GLBT Christians, their family and their friends in a safe, hate-free community that seeks open and honest discussion.

Gay Christian Outreach has grown rapidly. While we are still considered a smaller MSN Group, we are growing quickly. God has already done a great work through this ministry and has a lot of exciting things in store. Many have expressed thanksgiving over their ability to come to a site that offers support and fellowship without requiring them to hide any part of who they are.

Gay Christian Outreach maintains the integrity of being a community that is first and foremost Christian. The Co-founders, the GCO Leadership Team and many of the members have grown weary of encountering content on GLBT sites that is less than appropriate. The GCO Leadership Team takes great strides to ensure that Gay Christian Outreach remains free from sexually suggestive or vulgar discussion. In addition we closely monitor activity to ensure that Gay Christian Outreach remains free from pornography or sexually suggestive photos.

It is our members that make Gay Christian Outreach a successful ministry. Without the love and compassion of our members toward one another, this ministry would certainly fail. This website is just the beginning for Gay Christian Outreach. Our long-term vision includes: shelters for youth who have been kicked out of their homes for being gay; financial support of "urban missionaries" to take the Good News of Jesus Christ to those who have often been rejected or ignored by the church; retreats offering times of worship, seminars and the preaching of God's Word; financial support of pastors and churches that are gay-inclusive.
