Yukon Prospector's sire, Pacific Prospector 449X, ranked 8th in 1993 as the most widely used AI sire in United States and moved up to second place in 1994. In 1993 he sired 426 registered calves (one of those being Yukon Prospector).  In 1994 Pacific Prospector sired 852 calves, second to the black bull KCF Bennett Premier Z104 with 912 registered calves. Pacific Prospector's claim to fame with American Gelbvieh Breeders at that time was his high accuracy EPD for calving ease and low birth weight in a polled package.

The Pacific Trail Cattle Company in California had emphasized a breeding program based on calving ease combined with positive growth and milk traits since 1974. In the 2001 AGA Gelbvieh Sire Summary Pacific Prospector 449X is still in the top 25% of the breed for Calving Ease, Birth Weight, Milk and Daughters Calving Ease. In 2001 he had 1309 progeny in 189 herds with 448 daughters.

XZ Yukon Prospector was our selection out of 90 Gelbvieh bulls at the XZ Ranch Bull Sale in Stanford, Montana in 1994. He was one of two Pacific Prospector sons to come to Canada and the only source of Pacific Prospector's genetics available through AI in Canada. He was only used on heifers at Bar GR Cattle until he met with an early death in his 3rd year due to hardware. His daughters are long, deep-bodied and have lots of milk. On horned cattle he tends to throw scurs and horns but on some polled cattle he does throw smooth polled females.

Bar GR Erika and Elsa are two of the three Yukon Prospector smooth polled daughters selected for our elite purebred herd. Bar GR Elsa 309E is a donor cow in our flush program at Bar GR Gelbvieh in 2005. Australian Tropical Gelbvieh in Queensland purchased an embryo package on Bar GR Elsa 309E X DRJ Full Exposure  which will arrive in September 2005! Elsa's MLLC/ML Advantage 2002 black daughter is in the top cut and her 2004 twin Bar GT Louie dark red bull calves weaned off at a 205-day weight of 1150 lbs. (range conditions)! 

TIP No Nonsence 304N whose 2004 show record was impeccable is a Yukon Prospector granddaughter produced in Bar GR Cattle's Purebred Lease Program with Thackeray Gelbvieh Farms in Weyburn, Saskatchewan.  She ended her show season by winning the Sweetheart Classic where 38 Gelbvieh breeders selected her as the top Gelbvieh female. TIP No Nonsence sold for $10 500.00 and was the second highest selling Gelbvieh female in Canada in 2004.  No Nonsence with her RHRT Independence sired heifer calf , Sweet Liberty at side, started off the 2005 show season by taking Grand Champion female as well as Heifer Calf Champion at the Prince Albert Exhibition Gelbvieh Show in Saskatchewan.
