TOO MUCH STORYLINE
CARLY
Keeping it all in the family (For the last two years it had been all about Sonny winning this award in 2001 and 2002)
Carly has had a ton of material in 2003. From being pregnant in peril most of the year. In a coma from freezing water. Being kidnapped by your psycho brother in law. Then being kidnapped from him by a ruthless criminal who falls in love with you --to being shot in the head by your husband after giving birth. What the holy hey.
You see now why Carly had too much storyline? Nuff said.
NOT ENOUGH STORYLINE
MAC
Yes. they throw him a bone with the teen storyline, but other than that, Mac hasn’t had a life. Dial 911
somebody shut the commissioner's life off.
BEST RUSE
ALEXIS AS KRISTINA
I thought Alexis as Kristina was really goofy until I found out she faked it. I thought it was a smart turn for a smart character. As admonished as Alexis was for falling in love with Sonny ( I don’t know why. From what I can tell most of the women at GHH given Alexis’ proximity would have done the same thing.
) she has always been a smart cookie. I found the ruse not only a real reason for her to interact with Cameron Lewis, but the most believable of 2003
WORST RUSE
ALEXIS AS DOBSON
From the sublime to the ridiculous. At first I thought the Dobson thing was cute and funny. It was a nice intermission from the other stuff…but it went on entirely too long. The big Alice crush was a funny aside, but all and all the storyline should have ended sooner than it did.
WORST TREND
CLUB OPENINGS AND CLOSINGS
First we had Club 101 then The Cellar then “new” Haunted Star...can PC hold onto a club these days? Sleazy Jakes seems to be the only club that can sustain a business for longer than a storyline. Which leads us to…
WORST EVENT
ANY CLUB OPENING IN PORT CHARLES
You would think they would learn...you have a club opening...you’re gonna have some type of criminal activity and then…months later we will focus on the next club.
RUNNER UP WORST EXITS
SCOTTY/ AJ/ TAGGERT
Scotty’s exit…I missed that one. It must have happened overnight. I hear that may be repaired quickly in early 2004, but it seems an afterthought. But AJ’s exit?… I missed that one. It must have happened overnight. Blink, and you missed it. Taggert’s exit?… I did see that one and it did happen overnight. All three deserved at least a limited storyline to explain their exits. They deserved better than they got.
(FTR: Scotty left December 29, 2003. AJ left (from what I can tell) October 31, 2003. Taggert on May 8, 2003 )
WORST EXIT
STEFAN CASSADINE
Absolutely positively, the worst. Having also been WORST RETURN it’s amazing, but Stefan did get one more award. Alas, that award is also related to his poor return. It seems like even when they craft an elaborate exit the can’t get it right. (FTR:Stefan finally ended the suffering [for the viewers RIMSHOT] on October 13, 2003)
RUNNER-UP BEST EXIT
LUCAS JONES
Really there was no explanation for Lucas’ disappearance, but it was still OK. He really didn’t fit into the dynamic of the teen storyline so away he went. I predict he’s moved in with that infamous Betty nobody ever seen.
BEST EXIT
BRENDA
No car crashes, explosions, fires. No skipping bail or on the run. No running away from a scandal. Just a plane ride out of town. Could it all be so simple? It looks like the minimalist approach works for GH.
(FTR: Brenda left town February 19, 2003)
BEST SIDE CHARACTERS
COLEMAN & BIG ALICE
Now wouldn’t they make the next great supercouple.
Yeeesh.
Neither one never had much to do, but it was still a delight to see their occasional appearances.
