WELCOME PAGE OFFICERS | GEORGIA CRACKER RADIO CLUB HISTORY OF THE GEORGIA CRACKER NET As per logs and information of W4BIW, W4EEZ, W4DXI, W4GEO, W4HRR W4MMQ. In 1940 and 1941, Pop Jones called, The Army Amateur Radio Service (AARS) Net on 3995 until the FCC closed Amateur operations during WWll. Named after the Atlanta Cracker Baseball Team, In 1945 when operations resumed after WWll, most of the same group of hams started The Georgia Cracker Net on Sunday mornings on 3995. Part of that group was Byron Lindsey, W4BIW, Jim Spradlin, W4KV, Clay Griffin, W4DXI, Lamar Hill, W4BOL and Stubby Wilder, W4LXE. The net was at 9:00 A.M. on Sunday, from the beginning to the end of 1947 the Net Control Station was Bryon Lindsey, W4BIW the alternate was Lamar Hill, W4BOL. In 1948 Jim Spradlin, W4KV was Net Control and Clay Griffin, W4DXI was alternate. In 1949 Clay Griffin, W4DXI was Net Control and Stubby Wildla, W4LXE was alyernate. In 1949 they changed the time from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. on Sunday. The same group got on 3995 every morning and every evening for a ragchew. In 1950 during the Korean War, the Cracker Net also met on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7:00 P.M. for military traffic only. The Control for Tuesday & Thursday nights was K4WAR at Fort Gordon in Augusta. As per my logs I started checking in the net in January 1948, W4KV was Net Control. Some time in the 1960's they started having the net seven days a week each morning Monday - Saturday at 7:00 A.M. and at 8:00 A.M. on Sunday.
