here is what the Book of Deuteronomy 2:10-11 mentions:
Torah:
"10. The Emim dwelt therein aforetime, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim; 11 these also are accounted Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim."
The New Oxford Annotated Bible:
10. "(The Emim -- a large and numerous people, as tall as the Anakim -- had formerly inhabited it. 11. Like the Anakim, they are usually reckoned as Rephaim, though the Moabites call them Emim."
Other translations mention:
"The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims."
The word Raphah is singular and the word Rephaim is used in a plural context. In such, Oral tradition as well as some written Hebrew translation interpret the word to mean:
"Rephaim ('shades, ghosts') - the aboriginal giants who inhabited Canaan, Edom, Moab, and Ammon. (Unger, "The New Unger's Bible Dictionary", page 471.)
In Canaanite/Ugaritic mythology, Rephaim or "shades" are deities of the underworld.
[Strong's 7497]. rapha', raw-faw'; or raphah, raw-faw'; from H7495 in the sense of invigorating; a giant:--giant, Rapha, Rephaim (-s). See also H1051." http://www.ccg.org/_domain/ccg.org/Creation%20Articles/Circle%20of%20the%20Refaim.htm Here is some scriptural context to go with that the Nephilim were quite possibly 'giants':
"{D} Rephaim
(Gen 14:5 KJV) "And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims [7497] in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim,"
(Deu 2:10-11 KJV) "The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; {11} Which also were accounted giants [7497], as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims."
(Deu 2:20 KJV) "That also was accounted a land of giants[7497]: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims;"
(2 Sam 5:18 KJV) "The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim [7497]."
{C} Giants
(Gen 6:4 KJV) "There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown." In the paper The Fall of Egypt: The Prophecy of Pharaoh’s Broken Arms (No. 36) - Phase One Part Two the concept of the existence of men prior to Adam as described in the biblical texts was discussed. The term for these entities was the mighty men of old. The mighty men of old refers to the Nephilim or the giants of Genesis 6:4. The application of the texts to the offspring of the fallen Host appears to result in the offspring of the fallen Host being separated in the process of the resurrections. Isaiah 26:13-14, in fact, denies the resurrection to the Rephaim or Nephilim. The word Rephaim was interpreted as deceased or dead. <DIR> Isaiah 26:13-14 13 O Lord our God, other Lords beside Thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name. 14 They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast Thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish. </DIR> They are not listed in the memory of God. They are not part of the resurrection. It is quite clear ‘they shall not rise’. The word for deceased here is Rephaim (related to and associated with Nephilim, the offspring of the fallen sons of God) and the Companion Bible states that it is a proper name and should not be translated. The Rephaim refers to the other lords of verse 13. Where it is translated, it is always rendered giants or dead (Job 26:5; Ps. 88:10). Job 26:5 should read: <DIR> The Rephaim remain (Heb.: hul) under the waters (Companion Bible fn. to verse 5). Revelation 20:13 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. (KJV) </DIR> The Rephaim do not come above. They remain in the waters. The text is saying specifically they do not even make the second resurrection. Isaiah 26:13-14 denies the resurrection to the Rephaim yet all men are to be resurrected (from Dan. 12:2; Jn. 5:28-29; Acts 23:6-8; 24:15; 1Cor. 15:22; Rev. 20:4-6,13). Hence the Rephaim are separate to modern man. The Nephilim are now extinct although being exhumed often. There are no descendants of the Nephilim alive on this planet. http://www.ccg.org/english/s/p143.html These beasts are not now nor ever will be saved. Salvation is not for them. Yes Christ died for all, but only his children are allowed to except eternal life. Many are called and few are chosen. The death of Christ calls us for salvation, but to these beasts, are called out for judgement. We are called for eternal life while they are called to damnation. We are called to repentance while they are called to rebellion. They are the Nephilim, the children of the damned that have mingled with the seed of men. As at the time of the flood, the modern Nephilim are beasts that are excluded from salvation. So how can we know this from scripture?
In 1 Cor 15:31-32, Paul's says that he fought with beasts, then states that the beasts desire to eat and drink knowing that their time will pass. "I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? Let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die." Notice how Paul adds the eating and drinking here. I reminds me of the words found in Isa 26:14 where it says "They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish."
The word "deceased" is the word Rapha, which some scholars believe is a reference to the Nephilim. Rephaim is word related to Rephaim who were primitive giants who lived in Canaan, Edom, Moab, and Ammon. They were also known as Emims (Deut. 2:11), and Zamzummims (Deut. 2:20). feet). So if you render Isaiah 26:14 with the proper translation, it should read, "They are dead, they shall not live; they are the Nephilim, they shall not rise…" Now this begs the question, rise to what? The answer is found in Ps. 88:10 where it says, "Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? Shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah." So Isaiah makes it very clear that the Nephilim will never rise to salvation. They are totally without hope. So it is very logical to assume that the religion of the Nephilim is to "eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die." Now let's look at this in context of scripture. What the Nephilim did was to drink blood, eat the flesh of man, and chose any wife they wanted for sex.
In Luke 17:27 is says, "They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all." For me this is a clear reference to the Nephilim and their belief. If you look at this scripture, you have to ask yourself why was it sinful to eat, drink, and marry. Again, what the Nephilim did was to eat the flesh of man, drink, his blood, and take his women for sex and reproduction of beasts to the world. Many Satanic cults worldwide practice the rituals of eating flesh, drinking (human) blood, and having sexual orgies. The religion of the Nephilim is Satanism, which in turn is the worship of their fallen father.
So now let me get back to my original point. Paul's statement is that he fought with beasts, then adds that the beasts desire to eat and drink knowing that their time will pass. "I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? Let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die." For me it is clear that while in Ephesus Nephilim beasts tried to stop him from preach the word. Whether they were giants, or whether they were of normal size, it is hard to tell, but they were Nephilim the children of the damned. The bottom line is that they were Nephilim beasts who were trying to block Paul's ministry. In 2 Pet 2:12 it says, "But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption." 2 Pet 2:12 Note that it says they were made to be destroyed! The word in the language for "made" is born. This means that they were born to be destroyed! Does not sound like God's salvation is an option for these beasts. Rom 9:21-22 says, "Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory." The Nephilim are the ones that are to be cast out as Tares and burned in the fire. They are the weeds among the wheat. "But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath…" Rom 2:8 It’s obvious from Genesis 6 that the Sons of God deliberately turned against God, and even their own nature which God had made them to be, mating with humans and producing children that were giants. Even the terms used to describe their offspring, indicate the nature of the sin involved. The term "Nephilim", which means giants, is derived from the primitive root word "Naphal" {naw-fal’} {lp'n:} }}}}}}, which has such meanings as fall down, cast down, and fall away.8, 9 As for the other term referring to giants, "Rapha" {raw-faw’} { !yaip;r]}, or "Raphah" {raw-faw’} {!yaip;r]}, it is the exact same word used for ghosts of the dead, shades, and spirits. So even the meanings of the words used to describe their offspring indicates that they were descendents of fallen angels, and thus were satanic entities by nature. http://personales.com/mexico/guadalajara/RV1960/more.htm The word translated “dead” in verse 14, and in the last clause of v. 19, is Rephaim, and refers, not to men, but to the Nephilim of Gen 6.4. RAPHA=ALIENS?! The very name, Rephaim, in the Hebrew comes from the root rapha which means not only "giant," but also "lax," that is, "ghost," "as dead," "dead, deceased." Says Gesenius Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon, "flaccid, feeble, weak, only in plural." This authority states, "According to the opinions of the ancient Hebrews, void of blood and animal life, therefore weak and languid like a sick person." Isaiah 26:14 speaks of them, but their name is translated "deceased." Notice! "They are dead, they are deceased [Rephaim], they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish." Isn't it interesting to note that many of the so-called "aliens" which have been "seen" by various people, when described, all appear rather weak, flaccid, limp, and feeble in appearance, lacking energy and vitality? The word rapha is a title given to some of the demonic spirits, the hybrid nephilim, that were chained during the flood of Noah. This word has been misleadingly translated "departed spirits" in most Bibles. Rapha occurs nowhere in scripture except in reference to certain rebel angels responsible for creating "nephilim", hybrid fleshy creations genetically engineered from the daughters of Adam [Genesis 6] to house, or "be possessed by" the rebel angels who forsake their God-given spiritual forms. In the book of Enoch there is this Enoch, thou scribe of justice, go, announce to the watchers of heaven, who have left the high heaven and the holy , eternal place, and have contaminated hemselves with women... your (rebel watchers) petition will not be granted in all the days of the world [...] from now on ye will not ascend into heaven to all eternity, and upon earth, it has been decreed, they shall bind you for all the days of the world [...] bind them under the hills of the earth... till the day of their judgment and of their end
