* Listen to whatever your best mate has to say... If they think you're really interested, they'll appreciate you more.

* Put yourself in your friend's shoes from time to time. Imagine how you'd feel if you had their worries - always having to babysit a lil bro, or not having enough cash to go out, or struggling with maths... you'll find it much easier to understand and sympathise.

* For one whole day, find out what your friend's faves are. Whatever you do together, let it trigger a question, eg- if you're at lunch, ask them what their fave foods are. If you're in Town, ask about their fave shops! And if you're in School, why not ask them about their latest crush?! This way you'll learn loads...

* Invite eachother over to your houses... Besides getting to know each other better, you'll also be able to understand more, next time they complain about their mum being overprotective, or their lil sis being a pain!

* Look at their family Photo albums! Have a laugh, get to know more about their earlier memories and feel glad that you weren't the only one who looked funny as a baby!

* Never ever reveal a secret that a mate has told you... If they've confided in you, they obviously trust you and you could lose that trust forever if you turn their secrets into goss!

*  Talk, talk, talk! Friendship is about communication and you should be able to chat about most things.
If your mate is silent or moody though, chances are something is bothering him/her. This is where you come in as a good mate. Question them, comfort them, and offer advice. They'll do the same for you one day
