The WiG
Selected DVD and video jacket designs from around the world.
Official South Korean region 3 release. Surprisingly uneventful release for a Korean film with no slipcase and no bells & whistles at all; just a standard sleeve in a smoke clear clamshell. Yawn!
(below) The official Korean VCD. Comes with a slipcase in a standard double disc CD-style jewel case.

Official Hong Kong release from EDKO films. Nice slipcase (right) and matching variant poster artwork clamshell sleeve (left).
Official Japanese release. Sleeve inside clamshell. Nice color variation and intersting art work (there are many scratches and hair line slashes to the artwork - hard to see here though) seen in no other release.
(Below) The official Singapore DVD release with double side jewel case sleeve in a clear clamshell.
(Below) And this is the matching Singapore VCD release that comes in a standard CD jewel case. The VCDs are nicely picture printed and the undercase has a nice photo inlay - shown opposite the cover and case.
Official Malaysian VCD. Although not subtitled in English, the packaging is superior to the Korean release. This VCD comes in a full-size double disc clamshell and has a double-sided picture sleeve that can be seen on the inside through the clear plastic clamshell. The picture is the promotion shot of Soo-hyun sitting by the bathtub and next to the wig.
Official French release. Nice thick slipcase with insert clamshell case. French subtitles.
The Black Market Versions
Southeast Asian release with subs in English, Malay, Thai, Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, French and Spanish. Comes with full and widescreen versions.
(below) Bonzai Media release w/ subs in English
One of my favourites. I just love this glossy, colorful eye-candy cover that marries two poster varitions for the film. DVD9 - subtitles in Chinese, English, Thai and Bahasa
(below) The gatefold slipcase for this black marketer is one of the most amusing. The English synopsis on the back cover has nothing to do with the movie story and the listed credits are for John Carpenter's The Thing. The slit in the inside gatefold cover is for the DVD.
(Below) Varition #1 - top load slipcase - featuring the hair combing poster art. This one comes with a perforated (detachable) clamshell cover for use in a clamshell the buyer has to buy separately. It also has some Chinese above the logo and a big yellow DVD logo on the bottom of the spine.
(below) Varition #2 - gatefold slipcase - is what I call the "glitter box" which has a sparkling glitter mylar tone on the front, back and inside cover. Scanning has obscured this, though the hazy looking scan of the inside cover shows it somewhat. Korean and English subtitled.
(Below) Varition #3 - gatefold slipcase - is easily identifiable as the word SPECIAL is spelled wrong on the bottom and the credits on the back are for a Japanese film of unknown name. There is also a different logo used on the lower end of the spine, and on the cover beside the Korean title are two large Chinese characters - that appear only on this edition.
(Below) Varition #4 - gatefold slipcase - is yet another variant on the original Korean release. Box is slightly lighter than the others, it bears a different spine design, has no circular orange label on the cover.
(Below) Varition #5 - gatefold slipcase - is very similar in design to varition #4 above, except this one has the logo and the words Special Edition done in silver tone. Also, the inside of the gatefold has a slit for a dvd.

(Below) Varition #6 - gatefold slipcase - is readily identifiable by the gold-toned logo and all lettering on the cover and spine. There is also an orange box on the bottom left with Chinese gold characters in it. The box is a top-loading slipcase. My copy came with a sleeve in the clamshell, but oddly and suspiciously, the back of the slipcase had what appears to be half of the original (detachable) cardboard sleeve - the cover possible cut off?? On the cover shot below a white line near the bottom denotes the still attached partial of the original cover.
(Below) Varition #7 - gatefold slipcase.
(Below) Varition #8 - gatefold slipcase - coming with reproductions of all three Korean poster designs, this is the nicest of the variants.
(Below) Varition #9 This red-logo, gatefold slipcase version (found in Mainland China), is printed on cheap brown cardboard - the exposed seam can be seen in scan 2. The film credits on the case are for Disney's The Kid with Bruce Willis
(Below) Varition #10 Distinguishing elements here are on the gatefold cover mainly. There is a yellow sticker in the top left corner, and (although the scan obscures this) the Korean and Chinese logos are raised and glossy. Inside we get two versions of the poster art. Comes with matching jewel case sleeve.
(Below) Varition #10 - Identical to the gatefold slipcase above with the exception of the yellow sticker on the front.
And lastly, yet another black market Chinese release. Standard sleeve in a slipcase, however, there are only Chinese subtitles on this one. And the picture is not great with muted colors. But the back features some nice photo work.
