Every week, I will add a new section to this page. This is not a walkthrough, it only gives you some suggestions to help you with the game.
New Bark Town to Violet City
-this is the best team to get before you battle the 1st gym leader:
* bellsprout lv. 12
*starter pokemon lv. 15
*pidgey lv. 14
*sentret lv. 12
*unown lv. 14
*geodude or onix lv. 15
- most people believe that cyndaquil is the best choice for a starter pokemon, but the best choice is really totodile. I'll tell you why later

Azalea town
-if you caught a mareep on your way here, level it up until it learns an electric attack. it will come in handy when battling Bugsy's scyther
-level up a pidgey. its flying type attacks are good against bugs. a spearow would work as well, but I prefer pidgey
- dont try to level up a slowpoke from the well. there will be much better psychic and water types coming up soon in the game
- if you didn't read this page before you started the game and chose chikorita, box it right away. it doesn't do well in the next few gyms, or in any gym for that matter
- this is the best team for the azalea gym:
*pidgey level 18
*spearow lv.18 (if you can get one, otherwise use another pidgey)
*mareep lv. 20
*starter lv. 20
*sentret lv. 18
*another pokemon (your choice) lv. 18-20

Ilex forest
-don't forget to get the TM headbutt deep in the forest
-wait until night time and catch an oddish. If you have the spare time, level it up and use a leaf stone or a sun stone on it. Grass pokemon don't do very well in Johto, but wait until you get to Kanto. They do very well in a few of the gyms
-as sonn as you get out of the forest, catch two drowzees. Level one up until it learns confusion, and trade the other for machop in the Goldenrod department store. Level the machop up to level 28. By then it will have learned at least one fighting move. use machop or machoke(if you evolved it) on the Goldenrod gym.

Goldenrod
-after the time capsule is ready, come back here and get the eevee from Bill. evolve it as soon as you can into either Umbreon or Espeon.
-this is one of the few towns where you can move ahead a little ways before you beat the gym. go north to level up your pokemon if they're not strong enough.
- make sure you level up that machop and evolve it. if you have any other fighting pokemon, or even pokemon with high defense, level them up too.
- this is a good team to have for battling the Goldenrod gym:
*Machoke lv. 25
*Graveler lv. 25
*starterlv.28
*Drowzee lv. 25
*Raticate lv. 25
*Mareep lv. 25
-this town has many good TMs to buy, whether it be at the department store or at the game corner.

National Park Area
-once you have the move surf, go across the water in the route below the park. there you can find one of the only two mysteryberry trees in the game
-the bug catching contest takes place Tuesday and Thursday. you can usually win a prize with a scyther or pinsir
- get on the other side of the fence and go as far left as you can, and then down. you will find the TM dig, which you can use on Raticate if you have been following my instructions. this will give you an advantage at the next gym
-at the top of this area,  past the park, you will find a "weird tree" which is really sudowoodo. if you are trying to complete your pokedex, catch it and box it. if not, just defeat it for the experience
- right above sudowoodo, there is a patch of grass. catch a growlith there and level it up. you will need a good fire type later on
-by now,  if you picked totodile in the beginning, it should have learned the attack bite. this attack is very important in the next gym, so don't delete it.
-you can box the machoke for now. it doesn't do well in this gym
- the following team does very well against the gym leader
*Croconaw lv. 28
*Drowzee lv.28
*Raticate lv. 30
*Mareep lv. 30
*HootHoot lv. 25
*Growlith lv. 30
- rely mostly on psychic, dark, ground, and sleep inducing moves in this gym. once you put the pokemon to sleep, nail it with the other types of moves
- watch out for Gengar. it will put you to sleep and attck you with dream eater, the most powerful psychic type move
- if you are using raticate, make sure it knows dig. the strategy behind this is that raticate is not affected by ghost type moves, but a strong ground attack like dig does very well against the ghost/poison types that you see in the gym
