The long tradition of H.O. Champ Car racing...
Phil Cianciola formed the HO Champ Car World Series in 1993. The first race ever was held on August 26th, 1993. Cianciola, a huge Champ Car and Indy 500 fan, built a slot car facility in his basement as part of a display of his racing memorabilia. At the center of room, an H.O. slot car layout. From that one track and one gathering of friends for an informal race, the entire concept of the HO Champ Car World Series was born.
The Participants
Racers all share the common bond of being fans of the Champ Car World Series. In the HO Champ Car World Series the fantasy is being a member of the actual series, but competing in 1/64 or H.O. scale.
Each driver selects a Champ Car Series driver and team to represent in the HO Champ Car World Series, which reflects the actual series in as many ways as possible.
The System
The season starts in the fall and concludes in the spring, during the full-scale series off-season. At an awards banquet a points champion is awarded the Husarsbilt Cup. Races are held at various locations, usually every other week at tracks throughout the Milwaukee area and even one in Chicago.
A complete computerized scoring system is set up at each location the series races at. Various members have designed and built the tracks we use.
The Tracks
The series holds races on a variety of circuits, just as the real series does. Super speedway ovals, bullring oval, street courses and road courses are all utilized.
Each track is fully landscaped, not unlike what model railroaders do with great detail.
The tracks are the centerpiece of a racing facility, including areas for timing and scoring, a driver lounge, pits and more.
The Cars
The cars are the same H.O. size as many of the drivers had as kids, only these cars are much faster and require a lot of driving skill to be competitive.
Each driver details his own car to closely match the Champ Car World Series car and driver he is representing in the HO Champ Car World Series. Most teams even detail a matching transporter to place in the paddock area on race nights.
The Sponsors
Many Milwaukee-area businesses and national racing sponsors donate prizes in exchange for title sponsorship of a race or a season-end award. For example, major companies in the Milwaukee area like Harley-Davidson have been long-time sponsors.
