WELCOME My name is Chris Tomlinson I am a Health, Safety and Environment specialist currently based in UK. Specialising in Health Safety and Environment in Oil and Gas E&P (Exploration and Production) mainly onshore, Refining, Rail (above and underground), Agriculture Horticulture and Forestry, Care and Social work, Construction, and all other Occupational sectors. Advice, training, auditing, inspection, preparation of systems and procedures, HSE plans and contract bid documentation. Now back in Yorkshire U.K. re-establishing the family farm on commercially environmentally friendly principles. In the last 18 months:-- 500 native trees planted autumn 2007 under carbon offset scheme have achieved a 95% establishment rate. My own field border Cotswold Oaks from acorns have been equally successful. One ancient farm pond re-established (not filling with water: so the drainage system my old climbing partner installed 30 years ago appears to have started working), but a new pond created near the farm yard is up and running, stocked with mirror carp and a few goldfish for colour is successful. Free range Rare breeds poultry enterprise established (Welsumer and Buff Orpington) now 80+. Pedigree Angora Goat herd established (four females in kid bought in autumn 2007) one aborted a few weeks early then developed complications and died but the other 3 produced four kids which are really good. . Plan for rare breed cattle to be introduced in the next 3 years (I have an inclination towards some Red Polls from Temple Newsam Leeds). We are not hell bent on organic production but realistic about sustainable mixed farming with a minimal environmentally damaging effect. On the above subject two of the bought in goats developed foot rot. Paring and spraying did not work. Now resorted to antibiotics under veterinary advice and some improvcement is visible. I have learned a fair bit about the environmental possibilities from my time in Oil and Gas (Mark and Tiuu among many others). By the way there are more Bull******rs in Health, Safety and Environment then most other professions so be careful especially carbon Offsetting . After years of working for "The Good and the Great" worldwide I have returned to being based in the UK and operating as an independent Health Safety and Environment Professional and farmer. I set up this community to provide a forum for other HSE professionals worldwide. We all seem to be striving to manage the same issues often in glorious isolation and sometimes in remote locations with little or no opportunity for discussion with like minded individuals. My background is a mix of Training, Management and Management Systems with spells of working worldwide in Construction, Power Oil and Gas, Rail and many other industries. . The vision is that this community can grow to allow crossflow of information about successful initiatives, problems, opportunities, new products and anything else of interest to the HSE Professional or commercial/project manager. Ask for help, promote your services, swap stories, look for jobs/work, or anything else that is legal honest and truthful. When Nations talk to Nations the world moves forward.
