Meth use affecting neighborhoods. A meth lab can be located in a house, garage, motel, shed, storage facility, boat, trailer, suitcase, cooler or just about any container. The smell associated with the cooking process resembles a combination of cat urine, dirty gym socks, acetone and paint thinner all mixed together, Hopkins said.

Panel moves toward tougher meth penalties. The House Public Safety Committee approved a bill that would require retailers and pharmacists to put products with pseudoephedrine — the key ingredient in making meth — behind the counter and limit the purchase to two packages per customer. Clerks or customers who violated the two-package limit would face a $100 fine.
