Hollyoaks fans get to choose their favourites again: Hollyoaks Online Poll of the year nominees have been released for the seventh annual of our online poll. After an eventful year which has seen some great dramatic exits and some powerful storylines, making 2007’s Poll of the year one of the toughest polls. Nominated three times for Best Actor throughout several award ceremonies this year , James Sutton is short listed for ‘Best Actor’ for the first time and is up against Jamie Lomas (Warren), Gerard McCarthy (Kris) and 2005 winner Chris Fountain (Justin). The ‘Best Actress’ poll sets to be one of toughest contested too as Gemma Bissix (Claire), Gemma Merna (Carmel), Emma Rigby (Hannah) and Jessica Fox (Nancy) complete the tough category. Sinead Mohinghan (Beth), Summer Strallen (Summer), David Judge and Garnon Davies complete for the ‘Best Newcomer’ category, previously won by Jodi Albert (2002) and Gemma Merna (2006). The ‘Moment of the Year’ category proves to be a arduous contest as ‘Sarah walking in on John Paul and Craig in bed’, ‘Claire being pushed off the balcony’, ‘John Paul confessing his feeling for Craig at Hannah’s 18th birthday party’ and ‘Claire’s dramatic car chase which ending up in a quarry river’ all make the shortlist. Former Hollyoaks starts, Ali Bastin (Becca), Guy Burnett (Craig), Gemma Bissix (Claire) and Oliver Farnsworth (Will) are up for ‘Best Exit’. The final category of ‘Best Storyline’ sees ‘Hannah’s eating disorder’, ‘The McDean affair’, ‘Who pushed Claire?’ and ‘Rhys incest affair with Beth’ making up the top four storylines of the year. Former Hollyoaks past great characters are to be selected into our ’Hollyoaks Online: Hall Of Fame’ which already had inducted characters Luke Morgan, Rob Hawthorne and Mandy Richardson. This year, fans get to induct three more characters into our ‘Hall of Fame’. The 10 characters short listed (decided by Hollyoaks superfan Guv) are Ben Davies, Claire Devine, Jambo, Kurt Benson, Gordon Cunningham, Andy Holt, Jude Cunningham, Geri Hudson, Dan Hunter and Lewis Richardson. To vote, simply select one nominee from each category and email at robbiefowler208@aol.com. To induct a character into our Hall Of Fame, simply SELECT TWO from the list of 10. Thanks for everyone who voted and results will be posted here on Hollyoaks Online on the 29th December.
Theatre Legend heads for Hollyoaks: Hollyoaks village is about to get a totally unexpected, internationally famous guest-star. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber - renowned composer and recent judge of Any Dream Will Do and How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? competitions - will appear on three episodes of the Channel 4 soap in late January. He said: "I have blurred fiction with fact all my life, but never before on national TV. Bless Hollyoaks for asking me." The musical theatre guru will play himself in the hit show. He will be responsible for deciding the fate of musical-obsessed Summer Shaw, the Hollyoaks College newbie who's desperate for a West End career. She's landed a role in the local production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, but that's not enough for the fame-hungry beauty. Ambitious Summer will audition for Lloyd Webber, but it won't go exactly as she planned. Summer Strallen, who plays Summer, said: "It's been a brilliant storyline and to have the opportunity to work with Andrew Lloyd Webber was fantastic. Hollyoaks viewers will have to tune in to find out if Summer does enough to impress him or if she'll live happily ever after in the village with OB."
Andy Moss reveals festive line up to Liverpool Echo: There's going to be one family Christmas with a difference in Hollyoaks this year ... and actor Andy Moss admits he was as shocked as anyone to find out why. Although Andy, who plays Jack the lad Rhys in the Chester-based series, says he is happy to get to grips with a controversial seasonal storyline. Full of festive spirit, Rhys can’t resist a kiss by the Christmas tree with gorgeous Beth – the only problem, as all Hollyoaks fans already know, is that she’s his half-sister! “Does that make it only half as dirty? I’m not sure it does,” laughs Andy. “Honestly, I was surprised when I saw the scripts. Rhys has always been a bit of a player and then he fell in love with this girl and for the first time he was ready to drop his player days. Then it turns out they’re related! That’s really ruined everything again, so no wonder he’s so fed up. “Although, I want to stick up for Rhys a bit because everyone says he’s always so miserable, but he’s not had that good a life. “He’s only been in Hollyoaks for two-and-a-half years, and he’s been a bit of a heartbreaker, but I think this was the one for him. Now I think it will send him into a downward spiral.” Mancunian Andy says he’s pleased to be involved in the Christmas cliffhanger, although it isn’t tinsel all the way. “This year they’ve based the Christmas storyline around three families – the Ashworths, the McQueens and the Osbornes – so it’s great to be at the centre of things. The only problem is, because of our filming schedules, by the middle of November I’d had four Christmas dinners and celebrated Christmas three times. I’ve gone a bit ‘bah humbug’ about it all now.” In real life, Andy is 25 – four years older than his Hollyoaks character. And, he says, there are a few other differences too. “Obviously, I’ve not been able to research this particular storyline,” he jokes. “I haven’t got a sister, which is probably just as well, because can you imagine the stick she’d be taking right now? “Sinead, who plays Beth, has already had some hassle on the street with girls shouting things and we’ve not even had the Christmas story yet. She’s a lovely girl, though, and I couldn’t have picked a better half-sister. She’s really stunning – we must have good genes in our family!” Andy will be spending Christmas with his off-screen family, who are flying over from Spain to celebrate with him while he’s on a rare break in filming. “They’re insisting on coming over to me this year because I was supposed to go to them last year and messed up,” he smiles. I should have been going to Spain on Christmas Day but I went out on Christmas Eve and missed my flight. “It was totally my own fault, but I knew my mum would be really upset so I tried to lie to her and tell her the flight had left early. I even rang her from the house and pretended to be in the airport, but she wasn’t buying it at all. “In the end my auntie took me in so I wasn’t on my own for Christmas, but they’re taking no chances this year.” While he still lives in Manchester and faces the daily M62 commute, Andy says he loves being based in Liverpool. “It’s such a good city and a great night out ... and I’m not a Man United fan so that gets me a few Scouse friends,” he laughs. The only thing it hasn’t got him – yet anyway – is a Scouse girlfriend. “No, I don’t have a partner at the moment in real life,” he says. “But I’m sure I’ll find somebody to kiss under the mistletoe – after my mum and dad have gone home, obviously!” Hollyoaks, Boxing Day (triple episode, C4, from 5.15pm. Also December 27 at 6.30pm, December 28 at 5.45pm, and December 31 at 6.30pm)
WAG tittle isnt right for Jenny Metcalfe: 'Hollyoaks' star Jennifer Metcalfe hates being called a WAG. The sexy actress - who plays feisty Mercedes McQueen in the hit teen soap - is currently dating Liverpool soccer star Jermaine Pennant but despises the label, because it makes her think of money-grabbing, work-shy women. She said: "I hate the WAG title! At the end of the day, I do what I do and he does what he does. I definitely don't want to be known as a WAG." However, Jennifer admits she loves shopping in Liverpool's Cricket boutique, which is popular with a host of footballers' wives and girlfriends, including Steven Gerrard's spouse Alex Curran. She added to Britain's New magazine: "Yeah, it's great! I like the high street, but it's nice to treat yourself now and again. I've never seen anyone famous in there, though." Although Jennifer insists she and Jermaine are happy together, neither has a desire to watch the other in action. She explained: "I'd heard of him but I absolutely hate soccer - it means nothing to me! I honestly can't think of anything I'd rather do less than watch a group of men kick a football around. And as far as I know, Jermaine isn't a fan of 'Hollyoaks'. When we get to spend time together we'll just chill in the evenings and watch a DVD or something."
