Below are quotes and excerpts from Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth Series.  Each book has a prophecy and a rule that the story encircles and quite interestingly so.  These stories can say a lot if you
listen closely...There is truth in every legend, myth, and fairy tale.

                                                   Wizards' Rules:

Wizard's First Rule: People can be made to believe any lie, either because
they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it's true.
"There is no counter. You must always be vigilant, knowing that you too, are vulnerable, and never        arrogantly believe that you are immune." Nathan Rahl, Stone of Tears

Wizard's Second Rule: The greatest harm can result from the best
intentions.  (Counter rule by using knowledge, wisdom, forethought,
and understanding Wizard's First Rule.)

Wizard's Third Rule: Passion rules reason.   (Be of sound mind
when choosing actions.  Stay calm and think things through.)

Wizard's Fourth Rule: There is magic in forgiveness.  (Magic to heal.
In the forgiveness you grant, & more so in the forgiveness you receive.)

Wizard's Fifth Rule: Mind what people do, not only what they say,
for deeds will betray a lie.

Wizard's Sixth Rule: The only sovereign you can allow to rule you is
reason.  (Reason is the very substance of truth.  In rejecting reason,
one embraces death.)

Wizard's Seventh Rule: Life is the future, not the past.  (Only future
holds life.  To live in the past is to embrace what is dead.)

Wizard's Eighth Rule: "Deserve Victory"

Wizard's Ninth Rule:  "A contradiction can not exist in reality. Not in part, nor in whole."

Wizard's Tenth Rule: "Willfully turning aside from the truth is treason to one's self"
