My hobbies: fishing, genealogy, reading, sewing, crocheting. Both sides of my families were born here on Cape Cod. All in Barnstable County, MA. Villages of Hyannis, Yarmouth, Dennis. According to legend, (no hard facts found), Augustine Bearse married Mary Little Dove, daughter of John Hyanno of the local tribe. As a wedding gift, Mary's father gave them a large parcel of land in Barnstable. Hyannis bares his name, and to honor this friendly Indian, there is a statue of him on Main Street next to the post office, in Hyannis.
I have lived here all my life. Many of my Bearse ancestors and Howes ancestors were Captains of Sailing vessels, lost at sea, and others were farmers. My mother's father, Henry Howes, was in the Civil War. My two brothers were in WWII.
That's about it for today. Thank you for accepting me into the Howes Family. Sincerely, Abbie Clark
James Loveland was born 1759 in CT.

2. Info from my mom, tho' admittedly her memory is kind of "fuzzy" on this, is that Mildreth (Mom's mother-in-law) Married to George Chapman; was born and raised in Maine, not on Cape Cod, and that she is buried on the Cape, but in her mother's family plot, not a Howes plot. My assumption had always been that it was a Howes plot. Going back to Geneology.com as well, now that I have the possible Maine connection. Love this detective work!

3. My wife and I purchased a 1912 bungalow in Alhambra, California and in
tracing the previous owners, we found a woman by the name of Mary C. Howes
had owned it along with her two sons, Jack L. (age 13 at the time [1930])
and William H. (age 10). Although it lists her as married in the 1930
census, no head of household appears.
Records show that she purchased it from the original owner/builder in
1929/30 and lived here until 1952.
The only other information I've been able to find is that (son) Jack L.
later moved to Grays Harbor, WA and just recently passed away (2000) at the
age of 87. I've not been able to find any information on the other son,
William.
1930 Census Info:
Mary C. Howes: age 54; born in Kentucky, Ill. Married at 18
Sons: Jack L. (13), born in William H. (10) both born in Nebraska.
Jack L; born: August 1, 1916 Died: February 6, 2000 in Washington
I can send you pictures of the house in the slim chance that there is an old
family photo taken outside that you can match. But any help or descendants
info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you,

Subject: I have information regarding descendants of Amaziah T. Howes
Dear cousin,
I I am 47,descended from Amaziah T. Howes through his daughter Mary Emily Howes,
who married Ira Washington Bird in the early 1860's as follows:
Amaziah T. Howes=Lydia W. Allis
Mary Emily Howes=Ira Washington Bird
Ralph Bird=Olivia Arnold Greenwood
Rowland Greenwood Bird=Clara Marie Lindenborn my parents
Presently, I live in Conway, Arkansas, and am the conductor of the Conway
Symphony Orchestra; I grew up in Florida. My father was born near
Milwaukee, WI; the region between Milwaukee and Madison is where my father's
family lived for several generations.
I've written to Bob Howes regarding Amaziah's descendants and have been
working for some time on the life of Amaziah T. Howes, the eldest son of
Lemuel Howes and Lavinia Tobey. He was born in Conway, MA in 1810. His
brother was Lewis Howes. Both A.T. and Lewis moved to Evansville, IN before
1840 and were merchants there. Around 1848, A.T. moved to Jefferson, WI
along with his family -- Lydia (his wife), Clara A. (dau), Mary Emily (dau),
and James (son). He vanishes from the census records in 1860 and 1870,
although his wife does appear, living with Lemuel and Lavinia in Jefferson.
(They have apparently come west also by 1860). This had originally led me
to speculate that A. T. had died between 1850 and 1860.
However, within the past few days, some new information has come to light
that may lead to his actual death date and location. In a nutshell, I
discovered that Amaziah divorced his wife Lydia in 1869 (filed in Jefferson,
WI in March of that year). He then moved (by 1880) to Gilead, Thayer Co.,
NE, and was found there as late as 1885 (NE state census). In 1890, his
second wife, Julia Pittam (who was much younger than he was), moved to Pilot
Grove, Hancock co., IL. I speculate that Amaziah died in 1889 or '90, which
was probably the cause of Julia's moving to another state, to live with her
relatives. However, I still don't have Amaziah's death date.

I have finally found some time to get some research done. In the past two years I have added 1500 names, though not all Howes. It is great to make the connections to other living Howes. I grew up not really knowing many of my extended family. Now I am developing a much more extended family. Cousins, please feel free to email me to exchange notes. Good Luck(SEE: Membership Chronicles, AJH)

8. WEST VIRGINA COUSINS Hi Guys Especially Carol Suder Howes!!:
cshowes@davisandelkins.edu Thanks for connecting with me and providing reference to your site. It is great to see digital sharing of family relationships. I am married to Ed Howes, son of Clyde Howes Jr., son of Clyde A. Howes of Alton, WV. Clyde has a number of brothers and sisters all over the country but doesn’t have a computer at home. I have printed out information from your site and will share it with the family and try to get them on board as well, even if it does have to occur at the public library. Thanks so much again. Great site, hopefully we can add some photos. I have a scanner and digital camera access and will be in touch. Carol
REPLY : Very happy to hear from more of the West Virginia branch of the family.
The JC Howes' Genealogy didn't get the WVA branch right, but the new
book got into the history of Ashfield and straightened out the line
that went to WV in 1815.
Carol you are apparently the daughter-in-law of Clyde Andrew Howes Jr
and Katy Thompson , the son of Clyde Andrew Howes and Stella Jane
Tenney, my family #1154.
I have no data on Clyde Juniors family other than he married Katy Thompson. I would love to get your immediate family up to date. Later
today I will send you, e-mail, a listing of your your line of descent
from Thomas Howes #1.
Thanks for your interest in the family. All the best
