(and 2nd cousins). Clear as mud as my mother used to say. Our Howes have been in the Ashfield Ma area for 225 years. BETSEY & NICHOLAS HOWES | | 11/12/03 Michael Downes emails- **I think but not 100% accurate that Rebecca Sears ancestry is: Thomas Howes & Mary Burr Joseph Howes & Elizabeth Mayo Samuel H. Howes & Rebecca Howes Sarah Howes & Daniel Sears Rebecca Sears & Thomas Howes**
If I am correct, then Thomas & Rebecca are married and 1st cousins once removed. Which for the time would be fairly normal practice. And it would give me two lines of descent.
Following is my direct line of descent:
Thomas Howes & Mary Burr Joseph Howes & Elizabeth Mayo Thomas Howes & Content Smith Thomas Howes & Rebecca Sears** Richard Howes & Tabitha Collins Enoch Howes & Elizabeth Smith Collins Howes & Rhoda Bangs Tabitha Howes & Nathaniel Kendrick Nathaniel E. Kendrick & Hercelia Dill Elmore Perry Kendrick & Katherine Devine Dorothy Kendrick & George Leonard Daudelin Frances Anna Daudelin & Joseph Martin Downes Michael Patrick Downes & Donna Marie Dunfey Michael Patrick Downes, Jr (me) b. 14 June 1970 Lowell, MA
Well I just wanted to introduce myself. Look forward to receiving my first newsletter. All the best, Mike Downes (yet another cousin) | 11/18/03 From Genalogist Bob Howes on Marlboro Howes line... John Parkis Howes was an 8th generation desc of Thomas Howes thru the Jeremiah Howes line. The sketchy family history I have says he was born 20 Aug 1848 in Worcester, MA, Based on that we deduce that his parents Alden B Howes and wife Susan were living in Worcester at the time, as in 1848 most, if not all, children were born at home and not in hospitals. Worcester may have had a hospital in 1848? I don't know.
Alden B Howes was born, as best we know, about 1820 in Stafford CT. Wife's name was Susan, no other data known about her. Alden B Howes was one of 7 children of Joshua and Lydia Howes of Stafford, CT.
Je(6) Joshua Howes was born and died in Stafford CT. He was born 1776 and died in Stafford 8 Jul 1838 age 62yrs. He is probably buried in Stafford also.
Joshua's wife Lydia d 5 Aug 1832 at age 49yrs. Also probably buried in Stafford, CT
Joshua Howes # 203 (In my new book) and Lydia had the following children:
Jeduthan # b 1806 d 16 Nov 1824 *Possibly Jonathan John b 1809 d 5 Apr 1824 Emily S b ??? Martha H b ??? Clark B b ??? Alden B b ca 1820? Lauriete b ???
The data I have came from several different sources, was pieced together, and is still a little sketchy. If I were you I would start looking in Worcester MA and then Stafford CT. That should lead you to Ebenezer Howes and his wife Priscilla Howes who were of Yarmouth and later Ashford and Stafford CT.
There are many references to the family and descendants of Ebenezer Howes and wife Priscilla Howes Howes in the VR's of Tolland and Stafford CT. Priscilla Howes Howes was the daughter of John Howes Jr and Priscilla Sears, 4th generation in the Joseph Howes line. Thru Priscilla there is a possibility of Mayflower descent thru the Sears and Freeman Families.

P.S. (for all) I recently met Jean Mayo-Rodwick who lives here in Las Cruces. She wrote and published, in 2001, the 980 page Genealogy of the Mayo Family, descendants of Rev John Mayo and Tamisen Brike of Barnstable Co MA. Jean is out of town 'till Nov 7th, but anyone interested in the Mayo Family genealogy can e-mail her at jrodwick at zianet dot com. She has no available copies of the Mayo Genealogy now, but she has the capability of copying and e-mailing Mayo data. She has also put the genealogy on 2 CD's which she has available for sale for $20.00 for both. She says she will be advertizing this in the NEHGS Register soon. I have borrowed her book while she is out of town and updated all the Mayo/Howes data in the new Howes Genealogy which is getting closer and closer. I see light at the end of the tunnel!!!!! | http://home.sprynet.com/~bernie06/famtree/g5411.html#I5525 - Elmer Wilmer Howes - MN - Thanx to - Mark Howes, I am a descendant of George Wilmur Howes | | | Hi to everyone. My name is Scott Howes (given name Banning Blanchard Howes, Jr.), and I'm a descendant of Thomas Howes via Stephen Miller Howes who was my great-great-grandfather. (See the Thomas Howes/Sarah Bangs branch of the Howes family tree, Stephen Miller Howes is at the lower right, just to the right of the tree itself). My father was named after his maternal grandfather (Capt. Phineas Banning Blanchard), who like many of the Howes was a ship captain. My son Trey (Banning III) is a 12th generation descendant of Thomas Howes and Mary Burr. I live in Southborough, MA now, although I grew up in Brewster, NY - a place with quite a bit of Howes family significance. I was inside the Seth Howes "castle" residence as a youth - shortly before it was converted into a halfway house. I still make a point to drive by every year at Christmas and marvel at the lights on the "castle"! My parents (Banning and Lynn Snedeker Howes) still reside in Brewster. I'm happy to say that my father's parents (William Frederic Howes and Clara Pendleton Blanchard Howes) still are with us and both are well into their 90's - they've been happily married for over 60 years! With a little luck, my son will get to spend some time with his grandparents and great-grandparents as we convene a mini reunion this weekend with 4 generations of Howes gathered downstate in New York. For those who are curious... Stephen Miller Howes married Henrietta W. French; they had two sons: Frank M. and William Frederic Howes (my great-grandfather). Wm F married Margaret Edna Gregor, and their only child was William Frederic (Grandpa Bill to me!). Wm F and Clara had two sons - William Frederic (the fifth consecutive generation with a Wm Frederic by my calculation) and Banning Blanchard. Uncle Bill had a long career with the B&O railroad (later CSX), and resides in Jacksonville, Fl. He never married. I have a brother (Gregory Alan) who is single and lives on Long Island. Hello Howes Cousins, I live in North Vernon, Indiana. My line to Thomas is: - Thomas Howes-Mary Burr
- Joseph Howes-Elizabeth Mayo
- Amos Howes-Susannah Hedge
- Stephen Howes-Thankful Hall
- Elkanah Howes ( Rev War)-Desire Eldridge
- Elkanah Howes Jr-Lucy Crowell
- Augustine Howes-Jerusha Hall
- Walter Fessenden Howes-Nellie Matthews
- Wallace Matthews Howes-Hulda Angelina Carlson
- Walter Fessenden Howes II-Marjorie White
- Karen Howes (me)-Kenneth J Kellar
Thanks to Cousin Bob, I already know much about my line. He has been gracious to us all in doing so much of the work. I am interested in finding out more about Elkanah. I know that he was a Rev War vet. I know his dates and that he was a Private in the MA Military. I have sent to the DAR for a Look-up, but wondered if anyone of our cousins may know more. Of course, I am also interested in learning more about others in the same lineas well as all of our other cousins. Many thanks, Cousin Karen | Next Page Or HOME
