Origin of  Huan Zhu Ge Ge

Huan Zhu Ge Ge is based on a series of books also called Huan Zhu Ge Ge. Huan Zhu Ge Ge is written by a very famous Chinese author, Qiongyao. How did she come up with this superlative story? Well, it all started when she heard about a place called “Gong Zhu Fen.” Gong Zhu Fen is a tomb where a princess was buried. The princess was a commoner that Emperor Qianlong adopted. Because she was a commomer, she could not be buried in the ground with the other royal princesses. Questions came into Qiongyao’s mind.

“How did the princess know the Emperor?

How was she able to enter the palace?

After being able to enter the palace, how did she live?

Since she was commoner, was she able to live in the palace peacefully?

Why did the Emperor let her be a princess?”

These questions kept on haunting Qiongyao’s mind. So one day, she borrowed many books about life during the Qing Dynasty. When she got all that info in her head, she started to write Huan Zhu Ge Ge.

Qiongyao

Recently, a new movie from China called Shi San Ge Ge (Thirteenth Princess) was created. People say it is Huan Zhu Ge Ge 3 but it is not HZGG3. It has a totally different storyline from HZGG3. The time frame is different too. This story is about a princess who loves to wear western clothing in front of Cixi* and that made Cixi love her very much. Shi San Ge Ge is like Xiao Yan Zi in some ways, but she is younger than Xiao Yan Zi.

*Cixi is the most powerful Empress Dowager of the Qing Dynasty. She is the mother of Tongzhi, the eighth emperor, and the wife of Xianfeng, the seventh emperor. She threatened to kill one of Guangxu's favorite concubines named Zhenfei, which she did kill. (Guangxu is the ninth emperor.) Just a little while before Cixi's death, Guangxu died. Many think that Cixi poisoned him but nobody knows for sure. Cixi chose Ai Xin Jue Lo Puyi to be the next emperor. Puyi was Cixi's sister's husband's second wife's grandson.Yeah, I know all this history is getting on your nerves, but I'm sure that it's best to know a little bit about the timeframe and what's going on.
