 Brutis

April 1993 - June 2000

What a ham he was *LOL* he thought everyone who came to visit came to see him and nobody else. I had a friend that was terrified of dogs and when she walked in my house she was horrified when this huge dog came lumbering up to her his butt all out of control. She asked if I would lock him in a room and I told her that no I couldn't do that this was his home and that it would not be right for me to do that. So she came into the living room and sat on the couch we sat and talked about nothing much really just enjoying an afternoon. Than Brutis proceeded to sit beside her and just stare at her as if to say "Hey don't you notice me? aren't I beautiful? don't you just want to hug me and touch my beautiful head?" well I guess she wasn't getting his telepathic vibes, because he tired of staring at her and put his huge paw on her knew *LOL* she just about jumped out of her skin thinking he wanted to eat her up. I laughed so hard and said "he only wants you to pet him" I told her "go ahead just pet his head" so she did when she stopped he put his big nose under her hand and threw her hand in the air to land on his head to pet him more. She never again asked me to lock Brutis in a room when she came to visit and when she sat on the couch she automatically proceeded to pet that big lugs head the whole time she was visiting and even would say good bye to him with a pat on the head. Brutis loved to fish and if you didn't let him lick the fish before you threw it back in the lake he was in there right after it. If he was bored he would pull HUGE boulders out of the water and anything else he could get in his mouth. He loved everybody and they loved him including the two HUGE German Police Officers at the Frankfurt Airport whom proceeded to offer large sums of money for him, but of course we had to turn them down even though they were very intimidating. They just laughed spoke to Brute in German and I swear he understood them than they walked away. I miss my Big boy my Bru Bru, Bru Bear, Brute. He was helped by his loving family due to Arthritis in his back legs and back which prevented him from being able to get up from a laying or sitting poition without pain.Rest my sweet baby and watch for me I will be watching for you when I cross that bridge I know you are with the others.
Hugs

How Rottweilers Got Their Markings

A long time ago, when men were alone and afraid on this new earth, the Great Being looked over all the dogs that had been created. He wanted that one special one, the one who would forever be the perfect companion for mankind.

There were fast dogs, long and sleek, there were massive dogs, slow but sure, dogs with keen noses, dogs with keen hearing and dogs who could hunt down lions. Dogs who could retrieve and dogs who could herd sheep. All of these were good dogs, but not what the creator had in mind.

Finally there was one dog. He looked rather plain. Medium to large sized, and all black, with a head like a bear and no tail. The dog was to be tested, to see if he was the one to be at mans side forever. And so the plain, black "bear like" dog was sent to mans fire. At first the men feared him. But the dog looked down. "I am sent to be at your side, to be part of all that man does."

"You are black, and strong like a bear! What if you eat our children?" they spoke.

"I would not do that," said the dog, "for I love man."

For three days and two nights the dog went with man while he hunted, and helped track down game, he protected their flocks, and chased away the wild animals who sought to harm them. He pulled their loads and supplies, and guarded their valuables.

On the third night, a small girl came to him. She was frightened by dreams she had.

So the plain black dog laid with her, and his head rested gently upon her. As she dreamed of scary creatures, the dog entered her dreams and fought them off. If she dreamed she was lost in the darkest quicksand, the dog would run to her aid and pull her out. All night long the dog never moved from the little girls side. All night long he battled the demons in her sleep.

When she awoke she hugged tightly her new friend, and kissed him once on each cheek, and above each eye. Her hands stroked his feet where he had waded in the quicksand, her arms hugged tightly his chest, and stroked his powerful muzzle and throat. Giggling and playing with her new friend and protector she even patted his behind. The child and dog became inseparable, and the dog felt only undying love for the child.

The Great Being whispered in the dogs ear, then. "You have passed your test, for many dogs can hunt and guard and herd, but you were not only willing to give your life, you went into the world of man and entered his darkest dreams and fears. You did not run, but stayed by his side. You have earned the love of even the youngest child, as it should be."

When the Great Beings voice faded like a gentle breeze, the plain black tailless dog shivered with happiness, and all the places the little girl had touched and hugged him became a wonderful mahogany color. And the Rottweiler was sent to be at the side of man, where is his place. But always in his noble heart is a special place of love, for the little ones. The children.

LIGHT OF LIFE

As the light of life grows dim,
And I slowly slip away.
I hear my loved ones crying,
Wishing for one more day.

With my last breath of life,
I look around and see,
My toys and bones and things,
That meant so much to me.

For just one fleeting moment,
I remember back in time.
When I was just a puppy,
And all the world was mine.

Although the light of life grows dim,
And I slowly slip away,
I am surrounded by the love I've known,
Each and every day.

We'll be together one day,
And now I know just why.
Although the light of life has dimmed,
Love can never die.
