Charity had a really interesting life. She was found at a McDonald’s restaurant drive-thru in Florida. After losing Fluffy, a cat I had for 17 yrs., my son and I adopted 2 female sibling kittens, and named them Faith and Hope. Of course, everyone wanted to know where Charity was. It was about 6 months later when we found her.

The first night I knew she was Charity. She was about 4-6 weeks old when we found her in May of 1990. The first time I looked in her eyes, and she looked in mine, and said one little meow, I felt an immediate bond with her. I actually felt that Fluffy’s soul was in Charity. It took awhile for her to get along with Faith and Hope, but they all became friends.

The first night we let her have free rein of the house, she went to sleep with me, which she continued to do throughout her life. She spent her first three years with Faith and Hope. When she started to grow into a cat, I found out that she was a Maine Coon cat. She was very loving and affectionate, and her eyes were like the windows of her soul. They seemed to say so much.

I moved to New York in May of 1993 to be with John. My son, Steve kept Faith and Hope, and we agreed that once I got settled, Charity would come to New York. Steve kept telling me that Charity was not happy, and she really missed me. On July 6, 1993, Steve put her on a plane, and she flew to N.Y. to be with me. At that time there was 1 cat and 2 dogs in the house. For almost 3 months, Charity stayed in my room with her food and litter box. Eventually, we moved the litter box and food out into the hallway. At that time there was still one other cat, Mystery, and one dog, Pepina. Charity started to move her food and water to the top of the stairs. I know she was saying that she didn’t want to eat there anymore, and wanted her food in the kitchen. Soon after that, Mystery was taken to another home, and there was Charity and Pepina. They never really were great friends, but learned to tolerate each other. Charity also began to be closer to John,

In February of 1996, we moved to an apartment, and Pepina was adopted by a very nice lady. That’s when Charity became the one and only, and was like a little princess.

She loved to sit on her window perch and watch everything going on outside. She loved to stay with John on the couch after he retired. She also loved posing for pictures, so I did take a lot of pictures of her. Charity enjoyed sitting at the table with us at dinnertime, and especially liked it when I set up a table for company for an occasion. She would sit at the table waiting for people to come.

Charity was a healthy, loving, and very contented cat. She was always like a little lady to me. She kept herself clean, and rarely caused any problems. One time she found a mouse in the bedroom and brought it to us.

By the year 2000, I found that I could no longer stay in N.Y. due to health conditions. I came back to Florida with Charity on a plane. The plane was delayed, and it took us 6 hrs.,until we arrived in Florida. So, Charity had her

2nd plane trip. This was the first time that I ever lived alone, but never felt alone because Charity was with me. We became even closer than ever. I got my first computer, and she loved to sit on a chair next to me. She would put 1 paw up on the desk, and loved it when I would say, "very good." She sat with me when I ate, she slept with me, and whenever I sat on the couch she was right there next to me. She also loved going out on the screened patio, and watching everything going on outside, and just relaxing and taking in the warm air.

John visited several times, and Charity never forgot her "buddy." She looked forward to seeing him, and I believe missed him whenever he left.

In Nov., 2001, John moved to FL., and rented an apt. in the same complex. In April, 2002, due to my medical and financial problems, Charity and I moved in with John. This hardly took any adjustment for her at all. She continued to spend time on the patio, sitting with John watching videos, sitting at the table with us at dinnertime, being with me at the computer, and sleeping with me every night.

She was very affectionate, and gave a lot of love, and was loved by both of us.

She was a "one of a kind". She had a good life, but was taken too soon. Her presence and love is now, and always will be sorely missed.

RAINBOW   BRIDGE

This Poem is Dedicated to Charity

My Cat ANGEL

I thought you’d be with me forever

And we would do everything together.

But, God had a different plan

And took you to join his clan.

I fought and fought to keep you

Together I hoped we would win.

But, it was not meant to be

As we both could see.

I miss you more than words can say

Each and everyday.

I know you are with me in spirit,

But I miss your gentle touch, oh so very much.

I know someday we’ll be together again

But that day seems so far away.

You were my best little friend

Right up to the end.

Please don’t ever forget me, no matter how long it is

Until I cross the bridge, and we meet again.

ONE YEAR AGO TODAY

Dedicated to My Cat Angel,

Charity

By her mom,

Miriam Eisbart

One year ago today

It was March 21st.

And my heart felt

Like it was going to burst.

One year ago today

I did not want to let you go.

But, I knew there was no way

I could say no.

One year ago today

I knew there was something

I needed to say.

I had to tell you that it was ok.

One year ago today

You got your angel wings

And as you flew up, up, and away.

The birds began to sing.

I know you are in a place that is

Free from pain,

And I hope that is where you will remain

Until my time comes, and we meet again.
