Where to Start Looking

Go to the Start/Documents menu and look at the most recent files they have opened. Many times you can find a lot of information about what they have been doing by checking there.

Open up their browser(i.e.; AOL,Netscape,Explorer) and find History. Then open the files that look suspicious. Write me if you need help on finding this.

Go to the Start/Find/Files or Folders...Under the Name and Location tab leave the "Name" and the "Containing text" fields blank.Set the "Look in" field to "Local Hard Drives". Click the Date tab. Set the "Find All Files" field to "Last Accessed". Then set the how far back you want to check for files accessed. Click the Find now button. A list of files will appear. Double Click the mouse on any file that looks suspicious. If the file does not open or you get a message box that asks you which program to use to open the file, then just close it and try another file. Try this technique again with the "Find All Files field set to "Modified"

Double Click on the Recycle bin. Check for files with questionable names and Double Click.

Finding E-Love Letters

Many times after two people begin chatting they will also begin email correspondence. With some email services, the files you are looking for are kept on your PC, with other services the files are located on a remote server.

To check for email on the local PC, use the same methods described in Where to Start in the "Find Files or Folders" section. Go to the Start/Find/Files or Folders.. and use the same settings except for in the "Containing Text" field put the name of the person you suspect or put your mates name or email adress in.  You may also try putting in *.dbx in the "Named" field

If anyone out there has other methods of retrieving emails please email me and I will post it.

Digging for Pictures

To find pictures of their chat room lovers (and any other picture they have been viewing), use the same methods described in Where to Start in the "Find Files or Folders" section. Go to the Start/Find/Files or Folders.. and use the same settings except put "pcx" or "jpg" or "jpeg" or "gif" in the "Named" field.

Locating the Lovers

Once you have a name or email address, there are steps you can take to find out where they live. Believe me, once the offending party gets an email or a call from you letting them know you know where they live, they start shaking in their boots and the chatting usually ends right there. I am not suggesting you visit the person, violence never solved anything. But a good scare can do wonders.

Almost every search engine, i.e.;Yahoo, Altavista, Bigfoot, has white pages for searching for a person by name. Most have "Reverse Search" which allows you to enter a email address and get back their home or business address. Try it!

Monitoring their Chat

Monitoring their chat conversations can be accomplished most efficiently by using PC monitoring software or hardware device. You can record everything they type and play it back later. Find out more by going to: http://www.askmaple.com

You may also get small pieces of the chat by using the Find Files or Folders method and looking for recently accessed files.

Another way to find chat files is to Double Click on My Computer. Double Click on the "C:" icon. Find and open the "Windows" folder. Click on "Show Files" if necessary. Find and open the folder called "Temporary Internet Files" and double click on any file that you think may contain information you need.

Yahoo Message Archive Decoder

Yahoo Message Archive Decoder decodes Yahoo! Messenger's Message Archive that is stored on disk. Normally, you need to log in first before you can view the Message Archive. Using this program, you can decode and view not only yours, but also OTHER's conversations, while offline, without password!  Check out today - http://www.askmaple.com
