| "Rob started early on the Malboro Red's and the beater wearing, I was into marathon running in those days too! Now sit back, enjoy the site and enjoy a complimentary cup of tea, from your own pot, all the VERY best!" I originate from the almighty Wensleydale in North Yorkshire and was schooled at the quiet County Primary and Secondary schools. This followed West Witton playschool and a spell at Miss Peels prep school (Bedale) - which soon closed when I started at 3! Moving on a few years I attended Richmond sixth form to broaden my circle of friends and pursue my rugby career.
Work suffered a little but representing Yorkshire and the area rugby sides at 18 and playing high standard colts (U21) rugby at Darlington was great. A Colts report that still exists is available, we thrashed Hartlepool 66-0 despite the typo error, I even scored that game: Hartlepool V Darlington Colts Following A-levels a tour of the Australian east coast followed, upon return I started reading ERM (Ecological Resource Management) at Newcastle University. In 2005 I gained a 2.1 BSc (Hons) in ERM. Having followed a land and estate management path, it seemed a natural progression to read Real Estate Management (REM) and get into the built environment, which had interested me in the estate management module and outside of university. Chartered surveying seemed like a fantastic career to pursue and work experience was gained at my fathers office. Scotts Wright Solicitors Wanting to remain in the North if possible I looked at the options of studying a RICS accreditted degree in REM, thankfully there was a relatively new course in REM at the University of Northumbria in the School of the Built Environment. The facilities were excellent and seemed better than those open to the ERMers at Newcastle. School of the Built Environment Having chosen the one year conversion option I moved across the road to the 'Poly', lived in Norham Palace and tried to live the life of a student as much as possible. Norham Palace Web Page My work hard/play hard ethic finally paid off, I gained a commendation for my MSc(equivalent to a 2.1) and was still seen trotting out for the Medicals on a Wednesday across the road. I was to start training with a local company, although we could not agree terms and therefore I was concerned that I had missed all of the application dates. Following a few hectic phone calls I managed to organise a last minute interview and two weeks after handing in my dissertation I had started work with storeys-ssp in Middlesbrough. storeys:ssp Read the piece my mother put in the Darlington and Stockton Times and other local rags: Northallerton News Storeys:ssp gave me a great grounding mainly in commercial agency and professional valuation and I passed the APC interview at Heathrow in October 2007. Whilst awaiting for the results I was offered a position by Scottish and Newcastle Pub Enterprises and attended a series of interviews and was offered the position of Northern Counties Estates Surveyor. I could not pass the oportunity off and have been working for them since December 2007. Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises Thanks for reading about me - some more interesting stuff...
