INFORMATION ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHOOTING THE FILM: They chose St Vincent Island to shoot the film because it didn't have much - The Island had a few piers. TYhey extended one and built a few others. - They added things to the down to make it look like their Universal Backlot. Neighbouring Islands helped out on set The Airport only handled small plains so everyone flew into St. Loucier and then came over on a boat. They brought about every hotel on the Island and hired 100s of the local St. Vincent population to work on the crew aswell. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE POTC SET: - Marineland is a closed down theme park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. This is where they built the fort for POTC.
The fort is all cement and plasterscans. The rest is smoke and mirrors. The Govourner's Palace was built from scratch The Cave... - It's one of the largest sets built on a stage in Hollywood
Its the centre piece of the film because it is where the treasure is hidden Its sculptured out of star foam. Wood frame and plaster was also used to build the cave It took 5 months to build the cave The water in the cave was a little over 4ft The Cave was probably one of the biggest cahllenges in the film The Ships... - A lot of research went into the film, especially when it came to the ships
They had 2 military ships and 1 pirate ship Lady Washington = The Fastest Ship in the fleet Dauntless = British Royal Navy Flagship The Dauntless was built on a larger barge because of the 165ft on deck. They only built the front section, stern and bow. LW had a lot of changes made to it 3 Large ships were built from scratch. 2 which were sea-worthy. They were built on top of steel barges 1 ship was built over in the dome at Long Beach They ended up building minatures of all three ships In the 'Storm' scene, they filmed it on a 70ft by 100ft, 3 inch deep pool - They had big fans for the gale effect. - The reason they used the 70ft by 100ft pool for this scene was because it would be way to expensive & extremely dangerous to film something like that out on the open ocean. The Black Pearl usually sails at night, with all the fog and mist but they found that doing the fog scene on the open ocean would have been to tricky and dangerous so they ended up building the exact ship again on top of the barge where it can be taken onto the open seas and then sail. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MAKE UP AND COSTUME: False teeth are vacuformed so they don't have to make loads of spare sets. All they have to do is the colour. Pintel + Raghetti (Barbossa's stooges) had contacts. Pintel got given yellow tinted ones and Raghetti got given a lense to make his eye look like it was poking out (the false eye). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE PREMIER: - DisneyLand California held the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl World Premier. It looked absoloutly amazing!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NOTES: - Peter Twist (Historical Advisor) was a huge help in the film with his general, historical information regarding dress + costum + military history aswell.
