| Equipment Greetings and welcome to the KPG'S equipment page where you can gape in awe and wonder at the gear that we take with us on any investigation, our intention being that it will hopefully provide us with scientific evidence of paranormal activity. EMF Meter Purpose - Detects changes in Electro Magnetic Fields which ghosts/spirits are supposed to effect. Thoughts of an open minded sceptic - Previously used by the general public for finding out how leaky your mobile and microwave was, now we can use them to find ghosts - manufacturers dream come true! Everyones got one these days - the Star Trek fanboys toy. Gives sad muppets like me the chance to wave a device around and say 'I am detecting no anomalous readings Captain/Debs/Nick.' KPG results - We have had some strong and unexplainable EMF readings on some investigations, particularly in the large room called The Beams at Westview Hospital, Tenterden. When Debs and Nick did their baseline readings here, the EMF kicked off and gave them the impression that something was following them around the room. Also, on the last investigation there, I was taking readings when it went berserk for no reason, so much so that I got someone else to try fearing that I was irradiated! However, the same happened with them. When you look at the Westview photos and see the activity in that room, it's not surprising that the EMF was activated big time. Cable Detector Purpose - It detects cables. And pipes. Thoughts of an open minded sceptic - Cables and pipes can effect EM Fields and basically muck up your EMF readings. The idea is to use it in conjunction with the EMF to hopefully validate (or unvalidate) any readings you get. For a hard to please geezer like me, great bit of kit as it backs up any scientific evidence. KPG results - Used in The Beams at Westview to eliminate the possibility of hidden cables/pipes causing those berserkoid EMF readings. None were detected and thus the EMF readings remain anomalous. Laser Thermometer Purpose - Takes the temperature. Thoughts of an open minded sceptic - Another simple and effective (has to be for me - 'point & shoot' is my middle name) bit of kit that is excellent for taking temperatures of certain areas where a hot or cold spot has been felt. Again, a presence of a ghost is supposed to affect the temperature. KPG results - Pretty much every investigation we have done has yeilded quite dramatic temperature fluctuations. Ones that stick in my mind are during a seance at Westview where the temperature within the circle suddenly plummeted and the group was chilled to the bone, backed up by the thermometer and also when I did a sneaky beaky when a medium was 'connecting' to a spirit, pointed the device at them and was quite taken aback at the wild fluctuations going on. If I could get that hot on demand, I'd be a popular guy! Motion Sensors Purpose - Senses motion. Thoughts of an open minded sceptic - Golden rule ' Remember where you bloody put them!' We normally set ours up in a "locked off" room or area so anyone moving about can be ruled out. We have two types - one that rips your eardrums out of your head and scares the living crap out of you and a more amenable one that beeps just loudly enough so as not to maim you. KPG results - Bugger All Baby Monitor Purpose - Monitors babies and other weird noises that cannot be attributed to snores, farts or other bodily emissions. Thoughts of an open minded sceptic - Perfect for monitoring a "locked off" room for any strange noises etc but the Golden rule 'Remember where you bloody put them!' applies for very obvious reasons. KPG results - None that I'm telling you lot about! Digital Camera Purpose - Takes camera pictures. Digitally. Thoughts of an open minded sceptic - This is the chicken or the egg syndrome. Does digital technology allow us to see things that we generally can't see with the naked eye? Or is digital technology causing these things in the first place? Opinion is very much divided and I'm still on the fence. However, digital Cameras are cheaper and easier for investigations. If a PC is taken on the investigation also, the pictures can be downloaded immediately. Why not take a good old 35mm camera as well, see if that shows anything. KPG results - Well, just look at our investigation pics and other members pics to see the volume of light anomalies captured in digital cameras. Gotta say, that we've caught some cracking stuff. I've got four favourites: The Kitys Coty figure (have a look at the investigations pics and see what you think), a vortex I captured at a private house, a bright, well defined orb (thought to be the spirit of 'The Matron') from a counselling room at Westview and one of me at Westview with a bright orb above my with a smiley face looking out. Video Camera Purpose - A camera. With video. Thoughts of an open minded sceptic - Apart from those private and intimate moments between consenting adults, video cameras are ideal for "locking off" in certain areas of the location being investigated. Digital and night vision versions are probably of most use as they also seem to capture light anomalies. Downside is that if you are using one on an investigation, you may actually miss something more interesting...or trip over (but could make £200 on 'You've Been Framed'). Oh yeah, and some poor bugger has got to look at all the exciting footage later on. KPG results - We have had success with video actually, again at Westview, where Debs and Nick captured a flashing light anomaly in the matrons room. We also filmed a transfiguration medium who had been 'transposed' by said and very anti Matron - pretty bloody scary - would certainly give old Del boy a run for his money (except for the rolling about on the floor in the necklock bit). Micro Cassette/Digital Recording Machine Purpose - Records stuff on a cassette/digitally. In a teeny weeny machine. Thoughts of an open minded sceptic - Another useful tool for capturing those unintended and potentially embarrassing bodily emissions and possibly EVP's or other unexplained noises as well. Very variable in price, digital versions are available and they are thought to reduce background noise, although opinion is divided on this (as usual). Many people like to use a dictaphone, but I suggest using your fingers. Again, it means that some poor bugger has got to sit there listening to hours of static or white noise. I've had to and it never did me any haarrrmrrmrmrrmrmrmrm.....wibble. KPG results - I did an investigation at a private house in Dover and captured a sudden and loud voice with a distinct accent that sounded like it was shouting right into the recorder. Still cannot explain it. Walkie/Talkies Purpose - To do a bit of walkie and then a bit of talkie. Then have a little rest. Thoughts of an open minded sceptic - Can be very reassuring if you are on your own and feeling a tad apprehensive. On the other hand, when you forget you've got one and suddenly one of your mates voices booms out, make sure you include spare undies! They are great for validating various noises and the location of group members (radios, not the undies). KPG results - Anyone who knows Debs or Nick will question why we need walkie/talkies in the first place - you always know where they are!! Normally, we give them a radio, shut them in a room and bugger off. Conversation normally goes like this: "Dave, you there?" "Yes" "Dave you %%&* was that you??" "No" "F%%g Hell!!" At that point the poor old radio descends into bursts of static with the pitter patter of running feet somewhere in there. Dowsing Rods Purpose - Light relief and lots of 'carry on' type jokes. Thoughts of an open minded sceptic - I've got some, probably motivated by the fact that they are quite cheap. My problem is that I have a touch like a humping hippo, so personally I find them difficult to use. Some say that you can communicate with spirit, seems pretty difficult to hold a proper convo with a spirit person using a couple of sticks - I await more conclusive evidence on this one. KPG results - Not really used in anger on any of our investigations as yet. |
