Letter to Kilrush Exiles - (continued) 28/01/04.
In starting this work I am assuming that I am writing to "Exiles" who have not been home for many years. First I must say that the town is improved beyond recognition. But the charming thing about this improvement is that the Council believes this is an ongoing process.
The business centre of the town is greatly changed, but most of the change is a cosmetic one. You will still recognise your old haunts. In the Square the old Patterson Stores are gone and replaced by a spanking new building for the Credit Union. While it fits in with the present architecture it also has a modern ring about it. The Credit Union business would be one of the important forces for good in the development of the town. The whole area around the Town Hall has been paved and cordoned off. It is a great asset to have this space for functions that may arise for the Eigse Mrs. Crotty Weekend in Summer or for any recurring Feile. Henry Street has had a fine job done on it in terms of new footpaths(tiles),all wiring underground, new street surfacing with a renewed water disposal unit underground. It really looks well. Businesses in the street have accepted a colour scheme on offer at the Town Hall, and that aspect of the street has visitors charmed.(We residents take it for granted!)
I hope to get a few snippets in here before I leave for Tanzania in March
