| There will always be controversy about what wood is safe and what is not. I myself would use only pine or apple. It is in wide supply here in UK. Other countries I cannot vouch for. I am adding this list here as I have collected news on wood from various sites. These are not my finding. They are the findings of other who have tried and tested I presume. I just dont like to use my chinchillas as test material. They are happy with their untreated pine with the occassional apple branches when its the season for trimming the trees back. Even then the branches are well washed after being sawed into small manageable sections then 'baked' in the oven to kill off any live bactera or bug larvae. Woods Safe (must be untreated, fungicide-free, and NOT painted) - Apple ~ see this thread for instructions wood??
- Pine (kiln dried & unteated with preservatives etc)
- Pear
- Willow (they love)
- Crabapple
- Dogwood rose (dried rosehips too)
- Hawthorn:
- Manzanita:
- Mulberry:
-
Willow (they love this)
