Ears A few common problems with chinchilla's ears Dry ears. This is a common problem in mutations and is caused mainly by excessive sand bathing, It's a bad idea to leave sand baths in the cage for chinchillas. Best idea is to allow then 15-20 minutes to roll in their bath and them remove the bath completely. If left in a chinchilla will often start using the bath as a toilet and this is certainly not the best of habits to encourage.
to treat this condition of dryness try rubbing a little unscented baby oil into the ear tips to see if this alleviates the dry patches.

Fungal Infection
If patches are red, crusted and/or weeping and obviously sore do get a check done for fur fungal problem like ringworm etc. which is highly contagious and can be brought into your home etc from a new chinchilla - reason why you should quarantine all new chinchillas - or by visitors to your home, or mouldy hay etc. Ringworm is also an infection humans can catch so do exercise caution and strict hygiene magagement with quarantine and antifungal treatment for the infected chinchilla immediately.

Freckles appearing on ears
This is common with mutation which are light in colour. Most noticable on beige chinchillas as they age. This is completely harmless and in my opinion is quite cute looking :o)
