What are prefixes and suffixes?

Prefixes and suffixes are word elements that attach to root words to give them new or added meaning. A prefix attaches to the front of a word, and a suffix attaches to the end.

Why learn Korean prefixes and suffixes?

The Korean language has many prefixes and suffixes, and many Korean words share the same prefixes and suffixes. You can build your Korean vocabulary faster and have a better understanding of  a word's meaning if you know the meaning of common prefixes and suffixes. Learning one prefix or suffix may be the key to learning ten, twenty, or more new words. For example, if one knows that the prefix ,?-, means "late," then he or she would have a key to understanding the following words:
