Welcome to the Lake State Railway Railfan Site

Welcome! to the Lake State Railway Railfan Website! We are pleased to have you aboard. The Lake State Railroad operates over historic Detroit and Mackinac and NYC trackage in northern Michigan. The LSRC was formed in 1992 after several industry closures on the old Detroit and Mackinac, which led to its end and selling off as part of a 5 year lease purchase agreement. Since 1992 the LSRC continues to maintain a professional and important operation and utilizes a roster of Alco motive power traveling through scenic North Eastern Michigan.

Serving customers such as LaFarge, Specification Stone, various gypsum mines, and many others, LSRC is rapidly changing and aggresively persuing new business including the aquisition of the CSX line south of Bay City through Saginaw to Flint.

This website is dedicated to preserving the history of the LSRC locomotives aquired since its 1992 creation and has no affiliation with the Lake State Railroad or any other companies pictured or mentioned. The Lake State Railway offical website can be found here. Dont forget to check out the photo of the moment below and lastly, enjoy the ride and let us know what you think!

LSRC's Newest Painted Lococomotive Spotlight

LSRC 1177 is Lake State Railways newest paint and Rebuild.  Fresh from the shops, it is on the Z126 job from Saginaw to Essexville and return.  This is her second day out of the shops and she is still undergoing testing.  In the photo above, and unnamed mechanic is seen aboard her, as he rode along to make she her first 2 or 3 trips went smoothly before she is offically released to service.  Photo taken 05/02/2008 by Patrick

Based at the historic Alpena Roundhouse, #469 still sees daily service on the Alpena switch job. Part of the original order of RS2 locomotives which dieselized the D&M, #469 is a lone survivor on the roster, with the only other RS2 in the US also being a Former D&M unit # 977. The October 2006 issue of Trains Magazine
features a special article about the 469, a unique gem in northern Michigan. the photo above is a Michael Koprowicz photo
