Genetics Getting the easy stuff.

Notes
sometimes learning anything new is a bit over whelming but if you take  the time and look at your birds when the types are talked about it sinks in , remeber looing at the big kids school books how hard math and science and all that was? Now you know it it takes time and a cool head to look at what we are talking about and knowing it. So sit back and get your soda pop and we can learn this together.
I work with color and type. I have been know for the d'uccles now I only have two hens but at one time I had hundreds and worked the millie color doing so meant I needed to understand color and how it worksI learned most of the stuff on line but have a back ground in agra science..but simple is all most need and given the tools to use it is what I want to help you all with so we are all able to do the work .
why do we do the gene work so we don't have to take as long doing the breeding . Many folks have owned poultry and many after year with out the science can say breed silkie to any other chicken you will in first cross get normal feathers but ..if you know this it will help the breeding program. If you have slate legs only with the barr of the denizli family the champines and fayomi not the barr rocks or any other you phoenix with the slate legs will lose the slate for the yellow because of the genes it carries in the barring . It works like this add one thing another may change because of the rules of the genes and the patterns stay that way. Tweek one thing something else may pop out so looking before you breed is a good thing but also mixed breedigs can be fun and I never say don't but many know the science behind the breeding will get there faster.
Working with birds now that have the blue green jungle fowl I am working in a field the genes have not been worked out and many are learning with me as most birds come from the red jungle fowl but now we are learning better.
I work with soft feather and hard feather birds and hard feather comes from the birds in asain they have less feathers and the feathers are hard because of the wet country side they come from they have 1/3 less feathers .
Lesson one hard feather gene will be dominate over soft (dom and res from now on) so if you love the long tail asian games it will take about 3 years to get the tail coming back F3 to you as each generation is a family 1 or family 2 like grandma is the first in the family and grand baby is f3 generation. So for three years you will need to jump or you can work with a cubalaya that has the long tail and no restrictors of the feathering but has the body type for long tail asian type game. That is how we are working the science of the genes and what I want to help you all with and many who are good with it can add on!
 Dominate is dom
ressive is res or rec
dilute is Di
the next page will be on the colors and how they are covered but this is to let you know what the symblos work and how we use the info
