- Linkin Park is "One Step Closer" to the top of the alternative charts, but fans must learn to spell the band's name correctly: "L-i-n-k-i-n." Chester Bennington, one of Linkin Park's singers, told LAUNCH that the band's presence on the Web affected its name.He explained: "There's a park in Santa Monica by where I live, and I just drove by it and said, 'Hey that would be a cool name for a band.' Something about the vibe of it just seemed to really capture the energy of the band, and it just felt right. So, unknowingly we, kind of, all voted for it and really didn't realize how vibey it really was. And then we worked on the changing of the spelling so we could buy the domain name. That was very important to us. So that's why we changed the spelling of the name to 'L-i-n-k-i-n.'"Linkin Park's original name was Hybrid Theory, which is now the title of its Warner Brothers debut record. The band is on the road supporting the album, with the tour ending December 10 in Des Moines, Iowa. They're sharing the bill with a variety of bands, from P.O.D. to Papa Roach, to Liquid Gang.
